I really want to get my mojo back :( For years I used to go out every day, camera in pocket and just shoot for the fun of it but in the last few years I’ve lost the joy and now I just can’t be bothered, to the point that I’m thinking of selling everything..

Maybe set yourself a target. I’ve had two that got me going again…

First was to try and take one artistic shot when out on a walk

Second was done with some friends, which was to take a photo of a tree a day for a month. The way each of us did that was enlightening, some did the same tree each day, some did artistic shots, some did a variety.

My obsession has calmed a lot since we were locked down. I’ve found the 52 on here really helpful in keeping me going. Some weeks just posting a record shot and others trying to be more creative. It has had me thinking about photography even if the outcome wasn’t great, and getting me outside of my usual genres.

My obsession calmed down with the rising cost of diesel but might get out more now it’s going down again

Anyone else having trouble with the cash back page on the Olympus page ?

I can’t attach a picture or or take a picture for this part2249CD0B-6F54-44F9-977D-73316824466C.jpeg

I got my cashback this week and can't remember having any issues with the page - although I think it didn't like the files from my iPhone which were heic and not jpegs.
Thanks. I used a different browser and it worked ok then

Seen another heron (it could have been the same one...)

The plastic 75-300 can get reasonable results. My outing had far fewer keepers than I'd have got with the 300mm.

I've just purchased a new E-M1 MKIII but as yet no lens, I thought that the Olympus 12-40 2.8 pro would be a good walk around lens but when I look at Flickr the 12-100 looks to be it's equal in terms of quality and would be more flexible.

Is the 12-100 as good ( in terms of image quality ) as the 12-40? or am I fooling myself.

Depends on what your taking I.e , general ,landscapes ,or sport/ wildlife ?

The 12-100, like the 12-40 is one of Olympus' pro lenses and I don't think Oly make a poor pro lens. I personally haven't used the 12-100 but have had the 12-40, an excellent lens. From comments Ive read on here I don't think you''d be disappointed if you went for the 12-100.

Hi Jeff, I live on Dartmoor and spend a fair amount of my time walking with my dogs so it can be landscape, then the dogs or a bird or ponies galloping across the moor, it really depends on what the day gives me. Weather can vary from bright and hot to foul and wet.

I do want to get some better action shots of the dogs and they can move pretty swiftly if there is food on offer :)

screen protector?

Any thoughts on a screen protector for my EM1.3

I used to routinely stick on a screen protector, but not sure if they are as necessary for more up to date cameras, and I wondered if some might interfere with closing the screen against the camera.

I have both the 12-40 f2.8 and the 12-100. Obviously there’s a difference in focal length, so it really depends what you intend to shoot. For myself, if it’s for an all-purpose lens (ie a Travel shoot) then the 12-100 comes along. If I know I won’t need longer than 40mm the the 12-40 goes with me for, although the 12-100 isn’t a large lens, it is bulkier and the extra stop sometimes is necessary on the 12-40 . You can’t really go wrong with either lens. Only you can decide.

Added bonus of sync is with the 12-100 which allows for crazy long handheld speeds.
Some people are judging it by seconds, I never could though, but I'm a bit shaky at the best of times.
I have had a 12-40 and 12-100, still got the latter along with the 12-45 for a lighter option

I don't use a screen protector on my EM1.3 I just don't feel the need to use one. I have had one on a previous EM1.2 and I can't say it caused problems closing the screen to the camera body tho.

It was something I routinely used to do, but it's not something you hear people talk about that much now a days. But I am conscious that with the Olympus (and my Fuji x100s) I'm using it in a less formal and careful way than with my Nikons and the screen is possibly more at risk of being scratched.

I only shoot with the EVF so screen is turned in till needed for adjustments or reviews . never used a protector ..

coming back to lenses , its a hard one to advise I have owned loads of olympus lenses and yet to find a bad one ,just buy them and dont use them so sell again

I generally only shoot with the EVF as well, but I also check settings on the rear screen and use it for low level viewpoints etc. so I like to have it visible while shooting.

What ever you decide on check out Great Western Cameras EBay store. They are also a bricks and mortar shop.
I recently got the 12-45/4 from them for a great price, they have lots of lens for sale.

I have also just bought another 40-150, the cheap one it’s a great lens for the money

I used to use Expert Shield protectors on all of my cameras and had one on my EM1ii with no issues with the screen folding in. I haven't bothered for the Em1iii or my Canon R5 as mostly the screen faces inwards.

Thanks, the ability to protect the screen most of the time certainly seems to reduce the need for a screen protector.

I have both (first version of 12-40 f/2.8). If I'm not looking for wildlife, mostly the 12-100 lives on my camera. It is quite a bulky lens though, so if I know I don't need that extra length the 12-40 will get an outing. The 12-40 also focuses up close for things like toadstools (to be fair I haven't tried the 12-100 for this).

I just had a look to see what action shots I'd taken with the 12-100 - not many. I bought it when I couldn't ski with the family so that I could take pics in the snow park and on walks without changing lenses in the snow. It turned out the snow park was inaccessible for me.

Here is a dog running taken on the 12-100 - no doubt slowed down by the snow.

Edit - to add this was taken on an EM1ii.

I decided the route I wanted to take with lenses was the 12-40 F/2.8 and then the 40-150 F/2.8.

Yes it definitely cost more but I like the compactness of the 12-40 and the extra reach of the 40-150 over just having the 12-100. It did take a lot of thought before I made the decision though as the 12-100 is a cracking option.

Here's a picture from yesterday with the 12-40. Nothing special, I just felt like posting it ;)
