As the title suggests, I've just seen the UK pre-order price and was surprised Olympus priced this high.

It makes the Fuji X-T2 look like a bargain.

I'm sure their thinking is that it competes with £4000+ Canon 1DX series and Nikon D5 but still...

What does everyone else think of the price?

The price has been rumoured for a while. Yes it is expensive but like all cameras it will come down in price. Be interested in seeing what Panamoz's price will be.

For those that need small, light kit that is truly weather-proof it fills that niche quite nicely, probably uniquely aside from the E-M1 MkI. It's an extremely hard sell against something like the D500 though. You've got to really want smaller and lighter, or be seriously invested in M4/3 to justify that. Mirrorless was apparently supposed to be quite a bit cheaper to manufacture, but the markets and the need to protect profitability has propelled them to some fairly crazy prices.

I think the price is indicative of the market as a whole though, once the £1000 barrier for sub full-frame cameras was punched through it seemed to open the floodgates. Everything is increasing in price drastically, look at something like the D750, which has pretty much got back towards its release price, 2 years later! Look at the new Apple Macbook Pro, barely updated in terms of core-tech yet many hundreds of pounds more expensive than the previous model.

I think we've entered a new period that is unlikely to follow previous trends. Using the D750 as an example again, it now costs more from the cheapest grey supplier than it did from official UK retailers a few months back.

Wow just seen the price. A bit punchy, but I'm sure it'll come down in time after they have profited from the early adopters.

I think the Japanese earthquake and low £ have both had an impact, without either the price might be significantly lower?

There is no doubt the weak pound has pushed the price up and sure the price will drop after a few months but this is new ground for a Micro 4/3 camera to be nearly 2 grand.

I'll probably still get one in to test but it better make my dinner for that price.

I agree that it's a hard sell when the D500 can be had for around £1400 imported.

Olympus seem to be targetting sports and action shooters with this camera but for less money a D500 is going to be hard to beat for that purpose.

I think the Olympus tested the pricing out with the Pen F to see if they could push up their margins.

Apparently they think they can.

Has anyone here pre-ordered?

Whatever the price today in £ this is what just about everyone else is doing, bringing out higher end higher spec'd and higher priced kit.

Yet recently took the press on a very dreary trip to Iceland to shoot landscapes with it, admittedly good for showing off the weather sealing, but we knew that anyway from the E-M1. Even Fuji have been confident enough to put on events that require heavy use of AF-C with moving subjects.

I was hoping they were confident enough to unleash the press or even a few pros with the 40-150 and 300mm PRO lenses on motorsport, sports events etc.

That would have been cool, a real signifier of intent but alas...

As it is I like the look of the camera, biggest new 'feature' for me would probably be battery life and with no pressing photography trips planned I'll just wait and see what happens to the price.

There does seem to be a general cross-category trend of high priced top-tier products, look at the price of the new Google pixel phone, Microsoft hardware, the new Mac prices. It seems as though as technology has got good enough even at the bottom of the range there needs to be a new reason for buying the top of the range - essentially premium image.

Have cancelled my pre order with SRS this price is way out for an upgrade with a suggested trade in price for mark1 of £400!

Havent we just had the Mexican Grand Prix. Most of the press guys who went to Iceland are American, a trip their with the cameras would have been a good idea if they wanted to show the camera was a capable sports rig.
Just an idea.

I think all the manufactuers are shifting to higher priced items because the mobile phone market is eroding the lower end of the market.

What would people be happy to pay for the EM1 II . I think £1399 sounds about right.
