This is my beloved OM-1 my father left me when he passed on. I still use it fairly regularly, it sits in my camera bag alongside my D90 and Nikon lenses.

However my problem at the moment is the final mercury battery has died it was one of four batteries I inherited with the camera.
My local camera shop says they are no longer made although there is an equivalent 1.5v battery that would work even though the old battery was 1.33v? as I recall.

The shop owner implied there might be a slightly wonky light meter reading due to the extra power of the newer battery so my question is does anybody manufacture a suitable battery of the original correct voltage?

Did a quick search on Google but found nothing conclusive.

Thanks for that Morgan I'll give them a call to see if they have any in stock. :)

Thanks John I always like a bit of diy, interesting how some people can think outside the box. Bookmarked.

Lovely camera. I've got one too, but I might have to let the lenses go soon and bin the body as I never use it any more :( [mods, this isn't me soliciting bidders!]

The battery tips are all good if I ever change my mind.

Nick.

Thanks for the link Graham have book marked it.

Don't just bin it Nick plenty of people out there who will buy it I'm sure.

Bin an OM1? BURN HIM!

(Oh, and what lenses do you have?)

Heresy!

Get the weincell, it works a treat! Also, get it serviced or your shutter speeds will be all to buggery after a long time unused.

Thanks for the links, just bought one off Ebay, should be arriving tomorrow :)

Can't wait to go back in time - starting to get that groovy 70's feeling all over again - have even been checking out some old adverts

Here's my fave OM sites:

http://zuserver2.star.ucl.ac.uk/~rwesson/esif/om-sif.htm

http://www.zuikoholic.com/omlibrary/

I recommend the 50/3.5 macro and the 100/2.8 (much better than any of the 135mm lenses) for some good and not too expensive additions to your kit!

Thanks for the links Andy, have bookmarked a couple but 2 seems dead and 4 has expired - just for info

By the way, where's the best place for developing onto CD, have read a few threads and Boots/Tesco seem to get a mixed reaction

What about the old'uns like trueprint, bonusprint etc

Any strong recomendations or is it a case of trial and error?

Noted, thanks!

Just the lens that came with it 50MM 1.8 auto-s Zuiko, but might be tempted with a wider angle as most mostly take landscapes with it and a few portraits in bw.

Some good links there Andy and also it got a couple of squirts of WD40 last year to get that shutter rocking. :)

Olympus OM-1, flared trousers, platform boots, shirts with big collars, warm Guinness only in a bottle, where will it end.

Having just resurrected my film EOS300 for startrail (and curiosity) duties, I'm planning on sending mine to here http://www.e6processing.co.uk/pricelist.html. Much higher resolution scans than the crummy photoCD offerings of Boots et al.

Will these (or similar) work on the OM-2? Would like to get some spare batteries for when mine die.:gag:

The OM-2 can use regular silver-oxide cells, it never required mercury cells anyway.

Oooh brill! thanks.

Well Ok, I meant put in a cupboard, its a damaged old one i got working from a camera shop I used to work in, the slower shutter speeds don't work (the camera locks below about 1/8th), and the timer facility is broken so could never sell it.

Lenses I have are:
28mm/f3.5
50mm/f1.8
37-70/f3.5-4.5
135mm/f3.5
200mm/f4

Think that's it anyway. I've also a mint boxed Winder 2 drive unit and Olympus electronic remote release, sigma x2 Tele, Vivitar x1.5 Tele. Sunagor extension tubes (13,21,31mm) Auto 310 flash. And various bits in the camera bag like focus screens.

Sorry if this is too much like threadjacking.

Nick.

All of those lenses will work very well on some DSLRs with the right adapter. The 200/4 is pretty sharp and very compact - much more so than modern AF lenses.

Andy, I know I know, but I'm pretty set on my Nikon as a DSLR system now, plus I've all my dads old Nikon lenses should I need them, and they are also pretty good!

Also they need some pretty hefty mods to work on the D90 so depending on how long the wife is willing to put up with them they will be for sale.

I've had most of the system for 15 years now so it feels weird to be looking to dispose.

Nick.

I have an OM1-n but I tend to use a cheap OM10 with a manual adaptor because it uses silver oxide batteries instead of having to try and work around the battery problem.

Saying that I use one of Paulbg's battery adaptors with the hearing aid batteries when I do use it. I also don't want to use it too much as it would cost a fair bit to replace but an OM10 is peanuts on ebay.

I'm just starting to upgrade my OM lens collection I use an adaptor with my Panasonic DMC-l1 (four thirds) so I can use the OM lenses with the newer digital cameras.

I also have a Olympus to Nikon adaptor so I can use all the older Nikon lenses I have with the Panasonic as well.

You're pretty stuffed with a Nikon DSLR - M42 and old AI/AIS mount lenses. The Nik has the largest flange-sensor distance of the common DSLR formats. If you want to sell, sell individually. This will get you the best return. I could easily see £200 from that little collection on ebay.

The L1 is a pain, like the E-1, can't use the AF-confirm chips on the adapters. Pretty much any other fourthirds camera can. Liveview does at least help with MF focussing and the fourthirds shallow sensor-flange distance makes most lens mounts easily adaptable.

I've only got the OM-10 now - was my father's. My fave was the OM-2SP - more like an OM-4 than a 2n, but a bit simpler. I also liked the beautiful build quality of the 1n and its raw simplicity - a fabulous jewel.

Andy

The L1 has quite a few limitations, hence my thread the other night about perhaps changing over to nikon.

But i think i'm just going to persevere with it, it still takes great pictures.

My OM10 was given to me by my Father nearly 20 years ago, its still my all time favourite slr.

OM1 and OM2n, I still have mine although I doubt that either would still work. I am no more sentimental about cameras than about sox, they eventually go out of vogue or wear out.

Having said that I do hold a soft spot for my Olympus C-5050 (circa 2002) that died last year. It was the finest camera I have ever used, including the current E-3.
