Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm 1:1.8 Lens
Anyone any experience with this lens?
I am building up a few primes for my OM-D EM5-II and this one is on the list.

I currently have the 20mm Panasonic and the 25mm Panasonic and the 45mm Olympus.
I fancy adding the 17mm Olympus with a view to dropping the 20mm Panasonic as I want as close to 35mm in old money.

cheers

It's a good lens :D but I'm not all that sure that the difference between 17 and 20mm would really be all that significant for me.

Anyway, back to the 17mm f1.8... It's well built and the snap manual focus mechanism works well.

I haven't used my 20mm f1.7 since I got the Oly 17mm, the Oly focuses faster and doesn't give the noise banding that can appear at high ISO with the Panny lens. I've read on line that some think that the Panny is sharper but I have to say that I don't see any difference and the Oly is easily sharp enough for me.

The only advantages I can see for the Panny are that it's a pancake lens and some may possibly prefer the 20mm FoV.

PS.
I have the 25 and 45mm f1.8's too, the 3 will make a nice set :D

Thanks woof its probably more I really like the field of view on the 35mm old school so much so that on my FE2 it is the only lens I use.

I think it's a good lens and actually I wish the were all made like it as the build is nice and I like the focus mechanism.

You now have to decide which to get... black or silver :D I went for the silver.

I just picked one up, it's superb!

Cherry Blossom near Mt Fuji shot yesterday with it.

Well it will be a used purchase so will see what is out there :-)

I've just got one for my EM5 ii and I'm really enjoying using it. Image quality is great, although I've only used it indoors so far. I have the 25mm as well but find that too tight for indoor shooting. Got some great family snaps at dinner on Sunday and finding that people don't mind posing so much for a M43 camera and small prime compared to a big DSRL or even the EM5 with the 12-40 on.

Seems like a good one. I got mine for £240 off eBay in mint condition. I originally bought a mint one from MPB for £270 but it had a scratch on the glass when it arrived so I've had to return it. I'm sure the scrappy wouldn't of affected use but still like to get what you think you've bought.

I did some tests on my 17mm f1.8 and was happily surprised with the results. At f2 I found the lens to be at it's sharpest. F1.8 was great and the lens only started to reduce in quality at about f11. The focal length is ideal for me and the lens is sharp but it is not a wow lens and I have no idea why. It still gets used loads and is currently glued to my Pen-f.

sell me yours :-)

HA! Not likely!!! :D

I did have a Panasonic 15mm f1.7 and that was superb!! Ideal for street photography.

Is that the Leica one?
I was thinking about that as well but it is a bit wide for me.
I am looking for one lens to take backpacking to Greece for 5 weeks in August.

Yeah it's the Pan/Leica jobby. It has real 'pop' wide open.

I love 35mm but for street I kinda like 28mm a lot too so 15mm is about perfect.

I have this lens (Oly 17mm 1.8) and love it. I've mostly used it for shooting bands in pubs, but it's also good for family get together type photos. I shall try it for street soon too.
