I just bought these new together (delivered today) and tried mounting the lens to the body and ran into a problem. The lens initially felt rough as engagement started but then became free.

I had a careful look at both the lens and the body with a magnifying glass and I identified an area of damage to the camera body just behind the mount. The area circled is showing signs of being damaged when compared to the same area on my E-M5 mk2.

The fouling is encountered once the lens is properly engaged on the body just as rotation to lock in place commences. I have a theory which I believe has some relevance which is that the weather sealing on the lens around the mount requires a certain amount of compression to be overcome. On this lens and body combination, if you push the lens against the body before rotating to lock in place the initial fouling isn't noticed anywhere nearly as much although I haven't fully mounted the lens with this theory in mind.

I tried my own Olympus 12-40 f2.8 pro lens on the E-M1 and it engaged smoothly and without issue.

I would think that either the lens has a manufacturing fault (unlikely) or that a Panasonic m43 body has sufficient lead-in built into the body mount to facilitate compression of the weather sealing before mechanical engagement.

Camera and lens have been returned but I thought I'd put this out there.

This material has been 'shaved' off over 3 mounting/un-mounting cycles.

There is only one answer here, send it back! PITA I know, as you'll have to wait for them to inspect it and send a replacement, but I wouldn't settle for that, especially new.

Agreed, it's on it's way back. I wasted no time in speaking to the dealer.
