I recently bought an Olympus 12-40 f2.8 Pro lens and very pleased with it, however, today the lens cap just came completely apart!
I wondered whatever had happened, had no recollection of bumping it and there were no marks indicating that it had been bumped.
Whilst searching for a suitable replacement I came across a thread on DPReview that indicated it was a common problem for this particular lens cap to come apart.
Fortunately no parts were missing and following the comments in the thread was able to re-glue it together without affecting the 'pinch' operation and all seems to be well.
All for the sake of a few blobs of glue at the manufacturing stage. :(
Anyone else suffered this issue?

I had that happen shortly after I got my E-M 1 mk2 kit and I reported it as a failure expecting them to replace. But no they sent to the Portuguese service centre and repaired it.....it came back within 6 days.

Since then I have kept the Olympus caps safe and now use third party ones.

Weird isn't it.

I thought mine had fallen to pieces, but my memory fails me. I lost it.

No Oly replacements available, so I got a couple of third party ones at about 1/4 the price.

Everything Olympus is beautifully engineered but such minor parts seem to lack production attention to detail!

Re: the wonderful engineering of the 40-150 f2.8 lens hood.

Around the time I got the aforementioned mk2 dual lens kit in 2016 I was reading stories about the lens hood 'exploding' and ever since then was very careful with mine.

This year or was it last year the more simple hood that was introduced with the 100-400mm lens came out and that lens hood is also compatible with 40-150......I bought one and now store the original hood!
