Olympians to be "honoured" by HRH?

I'd not thought about it, TBH, but seeing you mentioned it, are there any that deserve it then? I'm not sure that there are.
Maybe a couple of the ones that put their life on the line to bring us the "war atrocities" images, but then again maybe not.

But to be honoured several times for something they wanted to do, that when all is said and done, is a massive PR job, well ...

Those war zone photographers are also doing what they want to do. ;)

Maybe so, but you missed out the important part of my quote
honoured several times

Tbf they really deserve it. I mean look at that God awful GB jacket. Looks like a white bin liner with some printing on it. Never seen as ugly a uniform in my life. Especially obvious for the hockey ladies as I like their retro design dresses but then that stupid jacket. They deserve more :)

The honours increase in "importance".
I can only imagine the exploding heads if they were all awarded Knight/Damehoods right off the bat (pardon the pun) :D

As I quoted from the article
Mo Farah, who already has a CBE, has been tipped for a knighthood and star cycling couple Jason Kenny and Laura Trott, as well as tennis star Andy Murray, are expected to see their OBEs upgraded to at least CBEs if not knighthoods and damehoods.

These already have one, and not even for competing in the lympix.
Having more is just plain greedy :p

Yeah but the designer's dad's a sir innit? And he apparently skinned up in the bogs when he got the first gong...

It's only greedy if they covet or request them.
Hence they're honours. Honours are bestowed, not requested by the recipient. Double :p:D

That's not how I heard it works...

or is it only politicians that applies to ? :D

LOL never liked her designs. Considering the medal count shouldn't they've used an English design, or perhaps even more accurate a Yorkshire one?

Stella is English.

Stella is English.
I beg to differ
Stella is a pilsner beer of between 4.8 and 5.2% ABV which was first brewed by Brouwerij Artois (the Artois Brewery) in Leuven, Belgium, in 1926.
Since 2008, a 4% ABV version is sold in Britain, Ireland, Canada and New Zealand. Through a series of mergers, Stella Artois is now produced by Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest brewer.

Dunno, don't drink it,, and don't have a wife to beat even if I did :(

:p

Jesus. Have they started auditions for filling in for Richard Wilson (OBE) around here or something?
Despite all my "good Samaritan deeds" over the years, I'd turn it down, if offered, but I keep my head down and not make a song and dance about them,
so as not to draw attention to my self

Actually having read the WAMT I think those three Audi A6 drivers should get one as well :)

We know you do a lot of charidee but don't like to talk about it. :)

I've always wanted an OBE next to my name. Heck, I'd even settle for an MBE. It would certainly enhance my CV no end.

The letters I can use after my name were hard earned.
Still never used them

Just buy a lordship and get it over and done with :)

Who? JP or Ian? :P:P:P:D

You couldn't be any worse than the ones next door to me (19 years old boy who likes his drink and drugs and his mother who likes her wine).

makes a mockery of what the honours system is about.

What is it about? Serious question because i have no idea. All the Dames, Lords, Sir's etc. Why? I'm assuming it's for excelling in a particular area but still not sure why the title is required.

Same here, never saw the point TBH.
unless its used in a totally relevant context
ie a professional journal article or something, I find it quite pretentious.

The ones I dread are RIP, there again they won't bother me

Our Olympians did very well and it's not their fault we have to endure all the media hyperbole.

BBC Breakfast has been particularly cringeworthy, filmed one athletes granny watching him win a medal, yuk

The way they (BBC) have gone on I'm surprised they needed the plane home, thought they could just walk on water

I get applications/letters daily from people and i always wonder why they have earned their letters/honours. I don't think it's pretentious at all if they've been earned then good on them/you. I actually placed the letters O.B.E after an old guys name recently as he'd mentioned it in his application and i thought he'd like it.

Serious question,
I know ( for a fact) there are a few people on here ( and probably a lot more than I actually don't know)
that are entitled to use various letters after their names, some are photography related, some are earned elsewhere.
How you react if the all started using Dr / Phd et al after their names?
Would you think more of them?
Less of them
or just ignore it?

If they're medical doctors, I don't mind them calling themselves Dr Quack or whatever but those with PhDs who call themselves Doctor Doohdah in everyday life get up my nose. Fine to do so in their professional capacity but not as a matter of course in real life.

I wouldn't think less of them at all. I would wonder how they got them then move onto the next thread. Nothing wrong in advertising your hard earned title in my opinion. It's not The Hangover and Doctor Stu would still get my respect for "only" being a dentist !!

I should have mentioned i still can't stand the elitist Baron's etc who are awarded titles based on something their great great granddad did hundreds of years ago. p***es me right off.
