I just wanted to heap a little praise on the Olympus 1030SW for its amazing ability to take just about any abuse you care to throw at it. I bought this compact gem as I wanted a small, pocketable camera to take on holiday and wasn't really bothered about the controllability or the IQ. What I didn't realise was how many more photo opportunities you get when you're not worried about treating it with kid gloves and it getting damaged... My eight year old dropped it twice (once into the swimming pool) and it's still completely unscathed.
How many cameras can you take on an extreme log flume with no fear of water getting in the works:
Or how many cameras can you whip out of your swimshorts, for a quick self protrait, whilst half way down a water slide :
Or how many cameras will capture your kids snorkelling... from underneath the surface:
And how many cameras would survive this:

Okay, so they're just snapshots but it adds a whole new dimension to your holiday snaps. Worth a look if you're shopping for a simple to use and indestructable compact.
