Lo all. First day on here.
Returning to serious photography after long break. (Police photographer for a number years, long time ago.) Whoa! Things have changed (apart from basic principles).
Still getting my head round digital, whole new world.
Would like some advise how to edit my profile (upload an avatar) and perhaps to upload pics eventually, am pretty computer illiterate.
Look forward to constructive (or any really) criticism when the pics arrive.
Just waiting for the rain to stop before getting my shiny new Canon out.:D

Welcome!
I too thought things had changed drastically. Now I'm thinking it's not so much. The differences are ways of doing things, rather than the things themselves, if that makes sense? Without writing a dissertation:
Filters, film selection, dodging/burning etc are now via software, rather than laborious darkrooms :)
(Some digikids will have you believe they invented HDR, masking, retouching lol)
Some of the difficult 'old' techniques are now a doddle but it's still all about light and composition.

Hi OP.
Bought a 500D. Just stocking up with a few accesories, Canon EF-S 55-250, Hitech 85 ND and ND Grads (want to do more and get better at landscapes, and to an extent believe basically good photographs are made in the camera. Or am I a dinosaur?).
Speedlite 430EX 11 with a reverse dome diffuser, well impressed with that! Will be looking for a good wide angle when funds allow.
I begining to come to terms with the changes, Carter64. Have bought Elements 9, just need to learn how to use it  Experimenting with RAW files, as you say the electronics make some previously difficult techniques, easy.

Good choice!
