old sigma??

hi guys been looking at an old sigma 70/300 it has a gold band at the top .
few ??? will this work on my D80 and being an old sigma is it a good lens or should i go for the newer red band .
appreciate your views please

What's the full model designation? There are several versions of the 70-300 and they vary in results. If it's a Nikon AF fit lens, it shouldn't do any harm so give it a try - if YOU are happy with the results, that's what counts.
 
nikon fit 70/300APO macro f4-5.6D, but its the older model as its got a gold band on the end of the lens , the newer ones have red .
but what i want to know is the older one any good .

AFAIK, the APO is better than the non APO version. Best thing to do would be to try it and see what you think of the results!
 
cant try it as its for sale , so needed to know a bit about it in relation to the newer version which is well under a £100, just didnt want to buy this if its no good
 
TBH, I wouldn't buy a lens I couldn't try, especially a 3rd party one.
 
kind of thinking the same , probably had a good few owners although it says in excellent condition
 
It's a bit of a long way from you but the Devon Camera Centre in Exeter has a Nikkor 70-300 on their 2nd hand shelf - £99 IIRC.
