Hi chaps, I have a good old faithful Canon MP600 which has served me well, I've always used Canon ink and the photo quaity has been good though I don't use it for good quality photographic prints very often but had to quickly produce a couple of prints recently and I just couldn't get the quality right - it was all pretty 'weak' I used Lroom 4 and am sure I pressed all the correct buttons, could it be that the printer is 'wearing out'? it is 5+ years old ... I've been looking at a replacement but the 6250 is quite expensive to run from reviews I've read on Amazon, I don't mind the initial cost but running expenses frighten me as it will be used for rubbish document printing most of the time, I wish I had the room to keep 2 printers but not enough space ... I guess I'll have to keep the MP600 and use photoshops for the good stuff unless someone has a good idea ?

Best Roger

If you used the basic resolution then youll get pretty poor quality. The 6x4s I get from the mp640 are acceptable at the highest quality setting.

Hi Roger,
Have you ever calibrated your monitor & printer? I spent years of frustration with poor prints but once I calibrated both the results are great! I used a guy from Sheffield who will rent you the monitor calibration kit (postal) & you can send him printer sheets & he will generate the printer profile for you. Just bear in mind that the printer profile is for a specific paper & ink combo. You should be able to do the whole thing for £100 & still keep one printer for everything & keep running costs down. If you don't edit colours, tone, WB curves etc you may get away with just the printer profile, but on past experience I strongly recommend both monitor& printer profiles together.
Link to his website ( I'm sure there will be others out there as well!) http://www.scs-imaging.co.uk/
FYI I have an old Canon ip5000 that is still great.
Good luck,
Chris

Thanks Chris, not a bad thought, I'll check out that link ... good of you to take the time.
