I have a Nikon D40 now but I find I get on better with the old lenses. I put manual nikon lenses in the search bar of e-bay and was shown hundreds of DIGITAL auto lenses.

Does anyone know a good place to to get the old fashioned lenses please.

Type Nikon Ai or Nikon Ais..............

Be prepared for a shock though, they are not cheap anymore.

Or just go specific to the good ones :)

100mm f2.8 Series E
105mm f2.5
75-150

:)

Thanks for the advice people. I've also been looking at your websites to. There great, we all need something to aspire to.

add a search for ais...?

Also add "-af" to get rid of AF...

may be add "manual" in the search too... might help

Or just search for specific mm and m42 / nikon to try and reduce the lists.

Ain't that the truth. I would say that generally old manual primes are dearer than many of the newer AF ones.

There are cheap manual zooms about though.

Best check your manual though for the camera to ensure that the old lenses still allow metering otherwise losing autofocus won't be the issue. Trying to meter manually requires massive amounts of patience and even when you do it correctly, the photo still might not turn out how you wanted when you take the shot due to how your body handles the image.

^ in addition to this - the D40 won't meter at all with any manual lenses, pre-AI, AI or AIS. It will only meter with AF, AF-D and AF-S G lenses.
