Hi all again,

I am looking to take some shots of the inside of a now closed old mental hospital. I was wanting to know if there is any way i can or need to contact anybody to get the right to enter to take the shots.

I have seen a few pictures posted on here of the inside of old building and it's something that i would love to try.

Can anybody give me some help on this.


P.S, it is secured by a private company.
 
Generally those that do take pictures in such buildings will often do so under the guise of urban exploration and do their best to circumvent any security measures in place.


Given how often this occurs and (must obviously) bother the security, asking them for permission to may seem like a bit of a p*** take (or may be a breath of fresh air and given)


With regards to who to contact, the urban exploration forums of the internet may come up trumps again: they're as likely as anyone else to know who's running the security op short of going down there, and no need to leave your comfy office chair
 
Option 1) set up a surveillance, monitor the security and check when you can break in!

Option 2) Phone the security comapny, ask if you can go in or who the vendors are and contact them.

Ha Ha, i think you are taking those pills and should stay off them.lol(thats for option 1)

As for option 2, i did think about this to be honest.
 
in glasgow could be ruchill security, seen their signs all over the shop
 
What ever happened to just scaling a fence aye..;) I got caught by security (and German Shepherd!) at a Wolverhampton Hospital (after about 2hours) - not the happiest of bunnies but they did say that had contact been made, permissions asked etc then they could maybe have sorted something out. Having said that Worcester Hospital was a blanket "No way in hell". It's swings and roundabouts tbh. Good luck though - if you decide to just wing it I'd recommend strong boots, torch and sturdy tripod. Enjoy!

Sneak in keep quite and be stealthy get your shots
or
Speak to the security guard ask him can you accompany on his round, maybe he could show you stuff you'd miss
or
ask official permission
 
Ask first and if they say no then sneak in. :)
 
I thought about this a while ago. Would still be keen but encountered the following problems.

1) Security was too tight for my liking and when they caught people they always attempted to call the police and delete all their images etc.

2) When trying to gain permission - I drew complete blanks. Either I was ignored by the people, or the construction companies who now owned the property said that it was too unsafe for anyone to enter.

3) A lot of these places have fallen into disrepair. Vandals and the weather has got to them making them extremely unsafe.

If you do go make sure you take all the appropriate safety precautions.

Plus a tripod would be a necessity, I gather they are very dark.

Still not totally written this all of, part of me REALLY wants to. Anyone in the London or West Midlands area(or anywhere not TOO far from there) fancy going on a meet to such a place then drop me a PM! :D

Permission will be hard to get but its not unheard of. Most go in under the radar and if you dont break in and your caught usually security are ok with you if your honest about why your there.
 
The hospital in question is called Broomhill. Here is a bit of history behind it.


Broomhill Hospital was built by the Association for the Relief of Incurables in Glasgow and the West of Scotland and opened in 1876. It catered for patients suffering from tuberculosis, cancer, chronic rheumatism and other incurable conditions. Paupers were excluded. By 1893 Broomhill could accomodate 100 patients. In 1904 the Lanfine Home for tuberculosis sufferers was added. From 1960 the Lanfine Home was used for geriatric patients. In 1948 the hospitals were placed under the Kirkintilloch and Kilsyth Board of Management and in 1974 were transferred to the Northern District of the Greater Glasgow Health Board. Broomhill continued to cater for the young (under 65) chronic sick until it was closed along with Lanfine in 1995.


I have now seen that somebody has been in and took shots of the hospital on flickr, but they seem to be from Korea.

It looks as if the floors/ceilings are collapsing, so if you do go in be careful. There was one room up at Lennox Castle where, when you opened the door, all there was on the other side was a two storey drop :lol:

I can tell you one better than that about 10 years ago i was out of work and just could'nt find a job. Went for an interview there and got the job as a porter only to find out i would need to move dead bodies in the middle of the night if they passed away.

Well i just had to say to the lady NO THANKS. got a job the next day.lol

Yeah i've been told by locals that i work with not to go near that as it is bad inside due to vandals with matches and the likes.

That's not the way security firms work round here - you pay them so that they don't firebomb your premises :lol:

This could be another option.
 
I'd try finding a sympathetic guard route first.

If you do go in under the radar then let someone know what you are doing and agree a time to call them - say on the hour - so that if something does go wrong the alarms can be raised.
 
A security guard would rather keep his job than be seen to be just not doing it for the price of a few beers id imagine.

Most ive come across are bone idle and either just tell you to jog on or leave you at it pretending not to see you.
 
Im going to take a drive past today and see if i can get a name and number and maybe go from there.
 
Don't break in, thats going to get you into big trouble if caught, wandering in a place thats already open is a different matter if it goes to court, and dont carry tools to break in with either.
Ask first, a lot depends on your approach.
On Thursday I was out wandering and came across an old mill, the place was all fenced off and closed up, but by the gates two workmen having a cuppa, I started chatting and asked nicely if the place was open to the public, no, but your welcome to have a look if you want was the reply, they even opened the gate for me. Result!. Wayne

It's different up here, there is no such thing as trespass under Scots' Law....

You need to be wary of that one.
Trespass is a civil law offence in Scotland therefore the police don't get involved unless there is an additional aggravating factor. It's a generalisation to say there is no trespass law in Scotland.

Land acquired anywhere in the UK for a statutory purpose (eg railways [fine up to £1000], airports. mil. establishments etc.) are all protected by their own criminal trespass laws enshrined in the respective legislation.

It will depend on how the land for the hospital was acquired.
 
Don`t worry we did Law hospital a while back. Pretty creepy,but we saw nothing out of the ordinary:D

I wouldn't bother asking the security guard, you'll be asking someone on near minimum wage, who doesn't get paid to make decisions, to make a decision, the answer would almost certainly be no!

If the place is open, ie you don't need crowbars or cutting gear, just go for it, be quiet and plead ignorance if caught.

If security seems quite tight or the place is well locked up, try and find who owns it and ask them.

I'd go with sneaking in myself tbh!

Just to add to the spookiness.
Broomhill was originally a hospital for the terminally ill. TB & Cancer.
Be a lot of folk went in there and did not come out (alive).
 
There is always a way in..............just dont break in or get caught breaking in or go tool'd up!!

You will enjoy it my photography is now all of derelict building or asylums.

I doubt very much you would be given permission by the security firm or whomever owns the property as they wouldn't want the public liability should anything happen to you while you are in there.
