Old MBP battery and secure reinstall

Hello mac experts! I want to finish with my old MBP so would need to reinstall OSX mavericks and wipe the HDD from my data - what is the best and quickest way to do it?

Also what would I do about a A1157 dead battery (wouldn't charge any more after it sat locked in a draw for 2 weeks)? I can see plenty Chinese copies at £20 on ebay and amazon? Would that do a job or is it better to sell without one at all? It is a nice and clean customised machine, so I would want to clear a higher end fee paid for theses MBPs. I would certainly consider a £100+ genuine a big waste of money.

When I wanted a new battery for my Macbook, everyone I spoke seemed to suggest the genuine battery was the way to go, however if you're planning to resell, maybe a clone battery would be sufficient, especially if that wasn't mentioned as a selling point.

That is a fair point. I don't want it to lose capacity over 3 recharge cycles as some reviews on Amazon state for some batteries (~ 20-30 people who received faulty product), and I don't want any explosions or fires on my head. Having said that, if it performs 70-80% of what new genuine would give, it is perfect - and anything else with 4-6 year old battery will be far worse anyway. Also, can you even buy genuine ones for late 2007 MBP? I couldn't see any on apple website.
