Old hard drive stuff

Can I stick an old hard drive from an xp machine into a vista machine and get at the files and programs on it.

Yes if the machine it came out of wasnt passworded

No you cant copy programs off as it wont write all the registry info to the vista machine thats written when the programs are installed.

Emm... think I'll stick it in an enclosure and get what I can off it that way first.

depends on the definition of "passworded"

passworded in the sense of windows logon password is easy enough to sort out.

passworded in the sense of encrypted then not without the key.

but as said.. no, programs cant be transferred. theyll need to be reinstalled from the original disk or download.
