I'm just wondering, as a Charity shop enthusiast, about old glass. Being waiting on my D70 to arrive and having given up smoking (thus having about £35 a week extra sitting in my pocket), would there be any point in getting old glass for my D70.
I'm going to guess that there are some very nice old lenses out there, but is there a point in grabbing one? Will I be better of gettign a good new one or a cheap old one?

without sounding like a sycophant:
1) Do you ever sleep?
2) Do you stalk only my threads (I doubt it) or all of them (more likely)
3) What would be quality old glass? Is there a guide to telling? Is there any 35mm glass which my D70 can auto focus?

Cheers for couting through the threads. your advice has been really useful to my little noobcakes.

anything f/2.8 with Nikon written on it will be worth getting, a D70 can use pretty much any nikkor lens made in the last 30 years, all the AF lenses will AF on the D70 as it has the AF motor in the body

Good glass costs brass. Wether old or new, I have a few corking old MF fixed prime Nikon lenses, but, as mentioned, they are not cheap, but by hell do they produce good images...........

Ignore Flashy, it takes time to work his SOH out........;)

I'm the kind of person who likes to go around the charity shops looking for cheap deals. you never know... beside it will be something for me to do tomorrow.
