I have a Canon 30D and have been given a Vivitar 285 flash gun by my old man, who used it sucessfully during his photography days some 15-20 years ago.

Does anyone know if I can use this gun with my 30D? My concern is the voltage output from the gun being too high to run thru my cameras hot shoe. I don't want to end up frying my cameras circuits.

Any help is appreciated.
 
Worth keeping the flash anyway, you could use as a fill with a remote trigger.
