No
I have an old Canon that belonged to my Father - I think it is circa 1940's or 50's (maybe nearer 60's)

It has a 50mm and a 28mm lens

Ultimately I am looking to sell it but know little about the type of camera it is. It comes in a brown leather case, but has no model number, just a serial number.

If there are any experts out there, please get in touch

A photo of the camera might help!
I'm sure someone will ID it and give more info.

Is the lens removable and if so is it a screw mount? If so, that's a hundred quid on its own :) Lovely looking rangefinder BTW.
Yes and yes

Thanks - I've been looking at the online canon camera museum and it's hard to distinguish between the models - could be a IIIA from 1951?

I'll put my money on it being a IVs2 (1952-55)

A bit of a mine field however this might help..
The IVSB2, IIS2, IID2, and IIF2 are the last knob wind Canons with a new improved shutter and larger easier to see finder. These are Canon's ultimate development of the traditional bottom loading Leica screw mount design. All were very similar, but different. The IVSB2 had a top speed of 1/1000 with flash bulb and flash sync. The IIS2 was a IVSB2 with lowered top speed to 1/500th. The IID2 was like the IIS2, but without sync of any kind. The IIF2 is like the IID2, but with flashbulb sync only. Confused? Don't feel bad, so is everyone else. Note the traditional Leica layout of the camera, only different. Of this last group, by far the rarest is the IIF2 with a production of ONLY 2,625 cameras.

So you need to know the top shutter speed and how it is synchronised to be sure.
The standard lens for these are usually collapsible like the leica Elmar of the time. yours is a non collapsible one but I can not see the focal length..

The top speed seems to be marked 1000 (see photo above). The lens is a 50mm f:1.8

Thanks for all the help on this. Any ideas on the best place to get things like this valued and/or sold?
