Hello everybody! This just might be my first post on here. I've been lurking for a while haha you all seem like a gorgeous bunch of people so I shall bombard you with questions now!

I've just been given a camera that's been floating around the family for yeeeaarrs and I'm just curious what it might be.

It simply says on it 'Classic E200' and is a 35mm camera, it looks like an SLR but acts like a lomography type camera, with basic f-stop settings and not much on the side fo shutter speeds. Very basic, plastic and probably cheap - yet quite heavy, considering.

I've googled it but obviously, the miute you put 'E-200' in all the results you get are for the Mercedes E200!

I'm going to put a roll through it and see what I get but I'm just curious if anyone else has any clues or similar cameras?

I can't find anything either, post a picture of it?

Wasn't E200 a type of slide film?

A picture is needed, but I think I may have seen one of these in a charity shop last year (it may still be there). Has the shape and bulk of an SLR but with a fixed lens (possibly plastic) with fixed infinity focus and up-close having a rather toy-like build. I suspect these were generic unbranded imports from the far east.

Could be fun, could be a disaster, never discreet! worth putting a roll through just to find out.

Could it be a kit built camera perhaps?

Alastair sounds right on the money. Sounds interesting. Here's a photo none-the-less.

HMMM looks like a plastic fantastic toy camera in the same vein as the Lomography or Diana cameras which are very popular these days.

Be intersting to see what kind of images you get out of it.

It looks huuuge! Run a roll of cheap Poundland film through and see what you get. It will probably get the Lomo brigade drooling

Hahaha I just started making a book using a mini Diana so it did spark my interest when i pulled it out the bag! It is pretty big considering it's a 35mm. About 6 inches wide and pretty bulky. I shall be sure to post my results up when I get them.

Love the OPTICAL LENS legend at the front.

You see them quite often at car boot sales.

I saw something of that ilk proudly bearing a Canon badge last weekend. Clearly it had come like that from whatever factory in China it was made in, but I'm 99.9% sure Canon never had anything to do with it.

Stick a photo of it in one of the "new EOS 1D" threads :naughty:

I was very tempted to offer the price of a pint for it for just that kind of tomfoolery :D

I've never worked with a camera that seems to have absolutely no focus control, even the Diana has a legend indicating how many meters you'll reach!

These thing do tend to be huge. Far larger than a Holga. I wonder if you could hack it to take 120? I doubt the image circle would will the width/height of the roll but that could make for some interesting effects.. .. oh dear, as if I don't have enough unfinished projects on the go..

That's a really cool idea actually, it could totally be do-able, might be a smidgen too short. Hmm this is worth looking into.
