How do, been on the site for a while now, but mainly just browse, took the plunge today and bought a second hand Canon EOS 350D SLR Camera , 18-55mm Lens, HOY 58mm Filter 1B, 2BG Flash Memory Card, Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro. Over the moon with it all just need to learn how to use it and in all honesty i havent got a clue where to start

Well you bought a great kit! Have fun ! Always ask questions if your stuck

i just need to get the most out of it now, what do people advise just play and take pictures or read internet tutorials/books? i feel like a blank canvas thats ready to learn,

Lots of good info on here. Don't be afraid to stick any questions into the basics section, or have a search.

I don't know the sigma 70-300 but I rate the 18-55 kit lens. I know most don't but it's a great lens for the money. My youngest uses it to great effect now he's stolen it from me. 350d is a very capable camera and a great starter camera. Enjoy, read the manual, ask questions and I'm looking forward to swing some of your shots.
Cheers

yep get out and shoot

useful when you're starting to carry a small notebook
record what you took ...so any bummers, you can say 'oh that's what i did wrong

good luck

btw..the HOYA 58mm Filter 1B is from the film era and is tinted 'pink' ... i'd discard it
also as it's not a HMC version [multicoated] it will degrade your images through flare of bright lights [sun]

dont know the EOS stuff ...you may like to buy a bigger CF Card if you shoot a lot each day

Note pad idea is something i hadnt thought about, but very wise. As for the hoya filter, ill have a look tomorrow. yeah ill probably look at investing in a 16gb at some point.
