I was on my way back to the north east from my holiday in The Cairngorms with the family. We stopped at a pub outside Edinburgh called Cramond Brig and I saw an old boy looking very dapper in a knee length wax jacket carrying a monopod with a camera on and taking shots of the river.

As I approached I realised it was a Leica M9! I didn't say anything to him but on reflection I wish I had now. He was just a cool guy with a cool camera and it was good to see.

You should have taken a picture of him.

Not being funny, but why is this thread worthy? So you saw some old guy using a camera ...?

Decent pub that. They used to do some good meals for a reasonable price.

The bridge (brig) is worth photographing too.

Why is it worthy? Why not! This forum is a place to discuss photography and to share the passion. I saw a cool old guy with a Leica M9 a very 'worthy' sight I thought I'd share.

I'm starting to notice some increasingly bad attitudes on this forum which is a shame because it's totally unnecessary and spoils the enjoyment.

It is dinners, some good grub in there too. We've been a few times but just discovered the bridge over the river behind it which is very picturesque and you're right - worth being photographed.

Exactly.
The thread title couldn't really be any more descriptive . . . there's no obligation for every member to click on every thread if they don't find the subject to be interesting

Doubly agree. There are no rules as far as I can see regarding worthiness of threads.

If you want to see really worthless threads, just click on any that Brash has started............

:lol: I dont Ade cos they are worthless.

No, because that would not have been cool or noteworthy (even though coolpix has the word 'cool' in it)

neither is some old guy with a leica

a naked chick shooting with a leica ( or any other camera for that matter) in edinburgh city would be note worthy however

I saw one of my daughters friends with one of THESE, does this help raise the worthiness of the thread
Sorry, couldn't resist, i don't even know the relevance of the Leica M9  but its photography talk so a worthy thread to me

I was taking some family shots for a friend of mine yesterday when he told me his grandad has an R9 sat in his loft collecting dust! My mate unfortunately had to get rid of his gear, but blimey..."buy your grandad a massive bag of Wurthers and get some sweet-talking done" was my response!

Jetpack - The man you saw photographs birds and wildlife down at the River Almond almost every day. He's a regular in the area, arrives first light and leaves when the sun goes down. He is very cool - I agree:)

Had a Burlesque group posing on the High Street the other week, didn't notice if any of them were armed with Lecia's however...

Is this a wind up? do you seriously know who I'm on about? Would love to know if he puts any of his shots up online.

not winding you up. If it is the same guy (sounds like it) Il ask him if he posts on line etc, he's familiar and always says hello. He usually stands at the bus stop round the corner from my house. Perhaps not today as its horizontal rain!

I'd love it if you could ask him mate, many thanks!

In the back of my mind I hoped that someone might respond and say who he was...excellent!

The way I was banging on about him you'd think he was my long lost grandpa! ;)

I'm always glad to see a young woman with a camera as it seems to be such a middle aged / older man dominated thing.

I did see a few young women out with bigish cameras in Newcastle a week ago.

That is because men are obsessed with the gear and that seems to play as important a part of it as taking pictures. Either buying the gear, talking about the gear or getting in a slanging match about their gear.
(Just look at number of people viewing the equiptmnt section compared to any other at any time fo the day)

Big generalisation but I think women have the balance better and are more interested in the image without obsessing about equipment used or DXOmark this and that.
