Hi,

I'm after some advice as to the best way to restore this pic.
I normally use Elements 4 but have just started using CS5 for which I have purchaed the "dummies" book.
I see this as a good way to learn PP in more detail.
Any advice on where to start?

i'd start by carving up each of the sections into separate layers so they can be lined up correctly. the missing corner part of the picture on the left can be obtained from the completed corner on the right. missing hats and foreheads can be obtained from adjacent men.

but from then on, it's going be the extensive and time consuming use of the clone and healing brush to remove and blend the damaged areas. there is probably 4 or 5 hours work there i reckon. one for a rainy sunday :-)

Do you have a bigger version? the hardest parts are going to be the missing faces, the rest is fairly easy.

Heres a quick and dirty version, I moved the bit together and used the healing brush and clone tool to "patch" it up, on this image it's a bit tricky due to the size.
