... *Quick pull on the flame suit* :p

I have £350 (No more, my credit has been crunched!) to spend on a DSLR.

I want something that will give me decent sports shots (High burst) and decent "street" shots. I'm totally bitten by the street bug. Been out with the compact, and received more flack than when I was using a friends D40!

I think Joe public feel more threatened when having a compact pointed at them than a DSLR.

So.. Any recommendations? £350 really is the limit to my budget. Been looking for some decent used stuff, but to no avail.

Cheers!

Nick

you said you wanted a fast frame rate for sports so that pentax proberly wont be what your looking for.

you should look for a canon 20d on ebay, has 5fps which is enough for sports stuff. you should be able to pick one up and have abit left over for a lens with your budget

Or you could try somewhere like Matt at MPB.

I've had a quick look at you could get a Canon 20D (high fps) with a 28-200mm lens. The combined price was £20 over your budget but buying two items, I'd be tempted to ask if he could do it for the price of your budget.

Trying to fulfill the brief of street and sports in one go is quite a tall order as one is fairly wide angle and the other a lot longer but even with the crop factor of the 20D you are going to get close to 50mm at the wider end.

Just my opinion but I would look at Canon or Nikon, they have basic kits within your budget and have a wider selection of lenses for when you do get some money to upgrade.
Keep your eye on here for the http://www.camerapricebuster.com/index.html
Also they do come up s/h on here but you have to be quick.

Must admit I did not look at the frame rate.. with go and slap my face with a wet kipper....

Unfortunately, he's now moved (Was it something I said??) so the borrowing would be out of the question. Thanks for the pointer too!

Well, looks like I have a deal on the 20D  but the lens is proving a tad more difficult. The only lens Matt has that will accomodate my needs and budget is a tad too expensive.

Anyone know where I can source some reasnably priced glass that will fall between street and sports shots? Looking for somethiong in the region of £100-130 max.

Thanks again people!

My first lens purchase was a Tamron 28-300 XR Di, I used it for two years for motorsports / street / landscape before I spent a lot more money on glass. jessops are doing it on sale just now for £127.22 which is a bargain :)

I've got loads of sample shots with one if you want to have a look

At that price you're going to struggle to find what you're after. 2nd hand is probably the way to go. I was going to suggest the Sigma 17-70, but I doubt you'd get one even 2nd hand for less than £150. New they're over £200.

Great link and I would love to see the samples!

Sorry, should have said, I don't mind good second hand :)

The lens is a jack-of-all trades, it needs a bit of practice to get the best out of it but once you do :)

Well.

Is this the fastest decision ever on TP? Looking for a camera this morning, by 2pm I have decided on the body and lens. And both at great prices!

Thanks for the links mrgrubby. Great pictures. I particularly like the penguin! :D

Thanks again,

Nick

Nah. This place is pretty efficient when it comes to helping separate people from their money. ;)
