Ok, Which Would Be The Best Deal?

Nikon d80 + 18-135mm + 60mm micro AFS

OR


Nikon d80 +18-70mm f3.5-4.5G IF DX + Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-S VR + Sandisk 2Gb Extreme III SD card + Holdall

OR

Nikon D80 + 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 VR DX

I finally decided to go for this option and save up for the D300 body (rather than get the canon 40D)

So which option would be the best value and give me the best range for the time being ?

I see no point going for a D200 if I am saving for the D300 and the D80 would serve as a good backup and light alternative to carry around daily.
 
I would personally go for the middle option.

Reasons being have heard the 18-135 isn't the best lens in the world. The 18-70 is a absolute cracker of a lens - and coupled with the 70-300 VR gives you best focal length options.

Hope that helps. (Just my opinion of course).

Good choice with the D80 also.

Option three for me. The 18-200 lens is awesome and out of all the mentioned lenses, you'll want to keep that one. Looking it at it another way; it'll sell far sooner than the others.

I started off with 18-135 and I found it a bit cack to be honest. Image quality wasn't the best, plus it killed my first D80. The 18-135 lens has been known to cause AF and shutter problems on the D80, and it happened to me! This was within three weeks of getting a D80.

I had it changed for a D80 body only, and bought a 50mm f1.4 and 18-200 online. I never looked back. The 18-200 is SO versatile!

I still stand by my answer in your other thread that a used D200 is far better value than a new D80;)

Especially if you were to be considering selling it soonish - as there is supposedly a D80 replacement coming out, meaning that s/hand prices will plummet as the market is flooded...
 
The reason I am not leaning to a D200 is because I see no point in my having 2 bodies of the same size and approx weight. I intend getting the D300 within around 4-5 months, and the D80 will serve as a lighter body for general everyday shooting. Else, I would be getting a D200. Besides, the D200 with 2 lenses is a LOT more money. All of those deals above are less than £900.

My decision has mainly been between the Canon 40D and the Nikon d80. I figured the D80 for now, simply because Canon does not appear to have an equivalent to the D300 currently. It is a jump right up to the 5D or an eos MK 1, else I would be going for the Canon 40d.

I have to note I really am agonising over which system to choose, even now as I get close to getting it all sorted.

What has swayed me to nikon is purely the lure of the D300.
What caught me with Canon was the feel of the body and the lens looked better quality, but maybe that is just my perception.
 
Go for option two, you will not regret it.... having the additional focal length of the 70-300 will be a bonus..... plus it will be a good lens when later coupled with the D300... The 18-70 is another great lens and you will not be disappointed with it..
