I've just bought a new voigtlander bessa r4a from b&h in the states.
All in £700 body only.
Dunno if I should have done that haha!
Is this whats known as buyers remorse!

I wanted to buy new really, I know it sounds daft but purchasing a film camera is something I've been thinking about for ages and I kinda thought if I'm going to do it I may as well get the exact camera I've wanted for years and do it right so to speak.
It's the spending that amount on a film camera in general that gave me the jitters for a bit! Haha

Well I came to try it today for the first time
(Took some time to get cash together for a lens and we've been decorating)
And guess what the bloody thing won't turn on! Tried two sets of batteries but no lights no firing shutter no nothing
So it's going to have to go back to the states for a refund. Bummer

Shhh, don't tell the wardens but I can put a very nice 2nd hand copy in the classifieds if you're interested :whistle:
 
Ha let me get my money back first!
B&h are on holiday for the next week so the shops shut. Unfortunately this takes me past the 30 day return/refund policy.
The only option I've had is to launch a PayPal claim for a full refund.

I'm not doing anything daft here am I?
I've tried two sets of batteries but there's no display at all at the half press of the shutter, which won't fire at all as it's fully electronic and thus the film advance crank won't work either.
It's deaded! !
 
Oh no.

There's not some kind of protecting film on one of the battery contacts? Batteries in the right way around (sorry, just thinking of the obvious)?
 
Aww mate that could be right! I thought the duracell batteries looked a touch thinner but thought my eyes must be funny! I'll try some foil between them when I get home from work!

I've just tried it now but it's not having it.

It's definately wound on and the collar around the shutter release unlocked?
 
Yep the collar is unlocked but it won't fire the shutter so I can't wind it on. Just says s in the counter window??
 
Sorry, another stupid question - have you put a film in it?
Will it wind on with the back open?

No I've not put a film in and I won't wind on with the back open.
I'm thinking that as there's no power to fire the shutter that's why it won't let me wind it on??
 
I was wondering if it needed to 'feel' a film in there to operate as I believe the meter only works when the shutter is cocked.

I think I've run out of suggestions, sorry.

I can't fire the shutter so I can't wind a film into place Unfortunately I've followed the test the battery section in the instructions and apparently the meter should work with a half press of the shutter??
 
Last call for a well-priced R3A... :whistle: probably doesn't have frame lines for your lens though :(

Your right it was just one of those occasions where I wanted to get new and hopefully have a good many years with the camera. The sensible option would have been to buy @ChrisR bessa r3 and saved a few hundered! But it was something I've wanted to do for ages and thought I want to get new this time.
I did alot of reading up on the vc lenses and wanted one with character and vignetting! The 35 has both so hopefully it will suit perfectly
