OK.... so I just installed the automatic Windows update and now have Internet Explorer 7 running (it's horrible as I can't find my way around it). It appears to have overwritten the previous Windows I.E, and now I seem to have lost my long list of 'favourites'. Is there a way of getting them all back without visiting each site and entering them all one by one? :shrug: I'm still playing about with how to get my homepage back too as when I connect to the net, I just get a blank blue screen. That'll teach me for fiddling :bang:

:help:

If you're running XP Cheryl, the easiest thing to do is run System Restore to an earlier date. :)

I found how to get my favourites back :D I'll see what t'other half says this evening, but we may well end up reverting to what we had!

Favourites are usually stored in

C:\Documents and Settings\AccountName\Favorites\

so the faves on my PC are

C:\Documents and Settings\Marcel\Favorites\

However, if you go to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs, and uninstall internet explorer 7, it *should* revert back to IE6 (Even though it looks as though it's overwritten it)

Failing that, install FireFox and get a grown up browser (Awaits backlash from IE fans like matty :razz: ):D

:agree: with Marcel/FB ... :eek: ...

Firefox is streets ahead of IE ... and much more user friendly too ... took advice from TP members last year and never regretted it since ... and it's FOC ... :D

:p

When I upgraded to IE7 I felt the same Mini, all unfamiliar and nothing was where I expected it to be. However I've been running with it for a while now and, dare I say it, I actually do like it :p The tabbed browsing is excellent and the new layout works well once you get used to it. I would suggest sticking with it for a week or two and see how you get on :shrug:

I like the new layout as well, took me a little while to get used to it and find where things had been put, but now with the tabs much easier when using numerous internet site and diffenet things on laptop it is so much easier to find other stuff as well.

So how do I get rid of the blank blue screen? On the tab, it says 'customize settings' but nothing happens when I click on it, so i either have to click on my home page (which no longer comes on automatically), or find a favourite.

Got to Tools/Internet Options and then change the Default Home Page in there.

Just beat me to it there Ian

I tried downloading IE 7, it said you are using an illegal copy of XP Pro 'bog off' :rules: :D

Just checked that, and all settings for my homepage are correct :thinking: If I click on the little house, then the correct homepage comes up, so why doesn't it come up at the start? Grrrr :bang:

On a similar subject does anyone know what is needed inside your PC to run vista to its full potential:thinking:

I have use firefox and it's predecessor phoenix for several years, and while IE7 is catching up it's not there yet. The main thing I HATE about the look of IE7 is that the tab bar is always on even when only one tab open, what a waste of space.

As for Vista and what you need to run it, that depends on which of 4 versions of Vista. Go to Microsoft's site to check http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/capable.mspx

To get an even better Windows Vista experience, including the Windows Aero user experience, ask for a Windows Vista Capable PC that is designated Premium Ready, or choose a PC that meets or exceeds the Premium Ready requirements described below. Features available in specific premium editions of Windows Vista, such as the ability to watch and record live TV, may require additional hardware.

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1.
* 1 GB of system memory.
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)2, Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
* 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
* DVD-ROM Drive3.
* Audio output capability.
* Internet access capability.

IE7 saved all my favourites when I installed it....

bah..IE7 installed fine, i have been beta testing it for months(i got my MS boxer shorts on- except with consoles, PS3 for me, xpox with its hddud add on..pffff)

Had problems with the early IE7 and removed it quite promptly but the full retail finished jobby is working a treat with no problems at all.

If I have a gripe about anything when I click the "Insert Image" tab the information bar appears on the top and I have to click here to allow scripted windows....:(

On my earlier debut with IE7 I actually got to disable this pop-up but can't be @rsed to find how I did it again..:D

My son has used FF for about 12 months now, says it's great but I'll probably stick with IE. I have just formatted and reloaded and everything is running fine so I don't want to cock things up just for that

From testing myself at work it runs ok on a P4 1.5 (or equivalent AMD), 1Gb ram and a 128Mb DirectX 9 AGP graphics card

I wouldn't run it on anything less than that.

It runs well on my home PC which is a P4 2.8 overclocked to 3.5, 2Gb of ram and a 256Mb Nvidia GeForce 5950 Ultra graphics card

I use firefox with IE Tab installed. If you come across one of the few sights that require IE (MS update etc) then you just rightclick on some blank space and click "view in IE Tab" it changes the render engine to IE6's.

I dont have any version of Internet Explorer installed now (using an nlite xp pro install).

I installed IE7 by accident yesterday as one of the auto updates, it's just plain horrible, and SLOWWWW :razz:

Not had any problems with IE7 myself, but think I pefer Firefox just because Im used to it now and it seems so natural, maybe 6 months down the line I'll be interested in IE7 again.

I have just recently changed to Firefox after downloading IE7 and finding it is not too my liking at all.

Well, having been on Firefox for a few days, I really like it. It seems so much quicker then IE, and very easy to navigate.

Installed IE7 a month ago. Vastly better than IE6 and absolutely no problems whatever.

Been using for ages now Cheryl...what took you so long :p

Problem solved.... we now have FireFox :D

First visit is to extensions in the tools menu and add funktionality (did you see what I did there! ;)).

I use forescastfox weather bar , customize google (god send), autocopy, password save as well as greasemonkey scripts and other fine addons :)

I still have to use Incredible Evil to hear my voicemails on Vodafone (True Scot, why pay to listen when it's free on the net). Firefox still does not support the audio plugin. :shrug:

You should be aware of BitLocker, a great feature in Vista that if planning a laptop will make your data very secure should it be lost/stolen. Apparently a motherboard chip will be required to support it (although you could use a usb stick).

Shall we run a sweepstake as to when the first Vista service pack will appear?

Can't stand firefox. Much prefer IE7 when in XP. Otherwise Safari for me :)

Should have saved them (and your cookies) to a seperate file, then imported them back into the new IE.
