Glad you said that, i must admit ive been going over it in my head for ages as its so expensive and still worry that i may be dissapointed i hope its sharp as they say as i crave sharpness, just need a new body now and wouldnt mind a tele convertor.. this new photography hobby aint cheap

what you bought canon or sigma? I done the same thing about a month ago lol

i went for the canon as it came out top on almost all reviews in terms of IQ

I no the feeling, I did the same thing buying a sigma 150-500 and a 60d body had to hide the lens for a few weeks before I coul pluck up the courage to tell the boss!!lol what whimps we are!!

ive only gone and hammered the credit card and ordered a 70-200 f2.8 mkii, i now feel sick the misses is gonna kill me.....

Hide the evidence and bring it out at a later date saying "this old thing? I've had it for ages!"

Haha how ive felt like this before. I normally just say it wasnt expensive. Untill she saw a 135mm f/2 when I left my credit card statement on the screen :D

Enjoy.

A couple of times out shooting with it and the cost will quickly disappear from your conscience.

You take a picture with it.

Sharpest and best contrast lens I ever owned personally. Couldn't justify it in the end and got sick of the attention, size and weight. Not to put a downer on it, I am sure you will love it! :)

I went for hdew cameras in the end, I know it's a import but it's a lot cheaper that a uk retailer, having read various good reports and speaking to them on the phone I took the plunge.... My one concern is, How do I know if I got sharp copy?

Good stuff, I'm likely to be tempted any day now ;)

Enjoy the lens! I once bought a £35k car without telling mine. That took a bit of planning!! :D:lol::lol:
I'm sure that I'm still making up for it somehow....

Kev.

I nearly pushed the button on a Canon 300 2.8 today, I touched it took some shots with it. But at over 5k I knew I would not get away with it. It is sharp it would cut your fingers off - don't go near one. I could get away with it if I told her it was a second hand one, couldn't I ??

I have had my 70-200 mkii for 20 months now and it the best piece of kit i have ...its as sharp as a sharp thing !!!

I bought a second hand mk 1 the other day and so far I haven't put it down.

It's the fact she wont see you for the next few weeks as you disappear with your latest toy you'll need the forgiveness for. Not the money you have spent with our her permission

Shes probably forgiven him after 13 and a half years :)

...probably

**Edited to add** The OP hasnt been seen in over 6 years, so maybe not  :$ :D

What is the old saying 'tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission'

Just saying ....... ;)

I went through this after buying my Tamron 18-400 lens (about $1,000 USA), and again when I bought the 24 mm tilt-shift lens ($2,500 USA), but my wife pays so little attention to my camera gear that she considers all of it a waste of money and doesn't even notice when I add anything. So as long as she gets whatever she wants, she pays very little attention to what I buy. My best suggestion is to just add it to your gear and bring it out occasionally at first, then more frequently later on. "Oh this? I've had it for quite a while, but don't use it much", would be my best suggestion for dealing with this situation.

Now, by having this 18-400 lens, I've managed to cut the weight and volume of my bag. I now carry just the one lens, instead of three, plus a spare body. With this one lens I can get great closeups and wide angle shots, as well as great landscape shots, and everything in between.

I have to remember things like that are meant to go on my credit card and not the works one
