I came up to the BIPP offices for my licentiate assessment today, and I have just come out...

They awarded me an associateship skipping the L altogether!

There was no criticism of my panel at all and they said that as a documentary piece it was executed extremely well and presented perfectly.

I cannot believe it I am so happy! Celebrations for me tonight!

I am off for my long drive home for a celebratory beer!

Your truly,

James Stone ABIPP (documentary photography) :D

Well done James. I'd love to see the work you submitted. I have no doubt it's superb.

BIPP - 'Back Injury Prevention Programme'

BIPP

The guy's obviosly just got his First Aid Certificate for preventing back injury - most commendable but I'm not sure that it calls for all this fuss!

:D Congratulations!

Well done James, I'm pleased for you. Enjoy the celebrations. :)

Nice one James. Look forward to seeing the images.

Thanks very much everybody, I am so chuffed I can still hardly believe it, I certainly never expected that results.

Just sat in the pub now enjoying a beer :D

Same here!

Congrats nonetheless

:D its the British Institute of Professional Photography www.BIPP.com

I was being assessed for my licentiate qualification but was upgraded to an associate instead :)

Which also means that I now get the ARPS automatically for passing this!

Time to start work towards a fellowship now :gag:

I will post up my submission panel later this evening for those interested

Superb stuff indeed. Must have been half decent to impress people that just look at piccies. ;)

"First Aid Certificate for preventing back injury"

What does that involve? following people around with your arms outstretched, in anticipation of them putting their back out?

But no, im sure its a more sensible and useful role than it sounds.

Well done!

Well, here is my panel from today :)

Its entitled "Panagiotis"

Here is the synopsis of the panel:

In 1982, “Panagiotis” was smuggling a large quantity of cigarettes when it was observed by a customs patrol. It managed to outrun the patrol boat but was eventually cornered on the North West coast of Zante in dreadful storm conditions. Its captain determined that the customs should not gain his prize, realized all was lost and decided to scuttle the ship. “Panagiotis” was carried onto the rocks in the fierce storm and finally, it was washed ashore.

What you see here is the decaying husk of the cargo ship Panagiotis as she lay to rest in the sands of this quiet cove.

I decided to create this set as the ship displays a wonderful array of earth tones, rough textures and deep contrasts in its decaying form and to take full advantage of this I have processed them in my favourite dark and gritty style.

This coupled with the wonderful array of geometric shapes, angles and forms that you see present over the ship made it the perfect addition to my library and a fine art display that I am proud of.

Here is the panel. The layout is first 10 are top row, second 10 are bottom row.

Eric BIBB (Back Injury related, have to look after the wife, she slipped a disc, does that count?)

Did you say you also get an automatic ARPS as well?

Very well done on an outstanding achievement

As for the images, very nice indeed.

Well done mate and congratulations.

Congratulations on the achievement and a great set.

Out of interest, I was always of the impression that the set needed to demonstrate a wide range of techniques. Not taking anything away from your set at all, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.

Have they changed their guidelines for submissions?

In what way do you mean a wide range of techniques?

If you mean technical competence, composition, use of lighting, processing, presentation etc... Then I believe that has been displayed fully, hence being awarded an associates.

A panel is supposed to be coherent and relevant and for my submission, I could not have included portrait and landscape and some studio shots... It simply wouldn't have worked and I would have failed.

Don't forget that there is a full mentoring scheme and my assessors are more than aware of my breadth of work that was included in my working profile, it's not all about just the images on show.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising your panel at all; it would take me a month of Sundays to get nowhere close to even one of those shots, let alone a solid set of 20!

I just interpreted it as needing to contain a range in so much as there was macro, night, strobist, etc. when they refer to range of techniques

Thats great news, and inspiring too - very well done from me.
