I was at the Charlton vs Leeds game today.

I was near the corner flag sat back a bit.

Got Jonnie Jackson's goal but the shot is a bit boring & some cele shots.

The in the 94th minute, I was switching from the 300 to the 70-200 as Obika climbed in the air for the winner. I was zoomed out quite far and only had a soft shot of him heading it.

He starts to run towards me. I have the monopod with the 300 on wedged between my feet and the 70-200 ready.

The some chap from Charlton (no idea what his job is) then runs in front of me to celebrate himself :bang::bang:

I managed a couple of shots just as this guy was coming in to frame & managed to crop him out. Then missed loads of shots as I was moving the 300 to the floor to get on my feet and to side of this guy.

If I had a gun instead of a camera then I'd be looking at life imprisonment :help:

Some great shots here from Getty & Action.

So it's pray for the first snap of Obika running towards me for tomorrow's papers.

Get a grip man. It's only photography and football! :)

Ok let's change that to, if I had an ice -cream he'd have got it in the face..

Much more fun. The number of times I could have "ice creamed" someone I couldn't enumerate.

Bildo I wish I could but not allowed to share under DataCo rules.

That's a shame, sounds like a rubbish situation!

Football fans and just about anything valuable don't mix I've found!

So annoying isn't it. That dilemma - when to switch from long to short. Marvellous.

Yes Tobers. If I hadn't switched I may have got him heading the ball and in focus...

Also the cele shots would have been tight but good on the 300.

I missed focus as I was zoomed out too far and didn't get the focus point spot on.

Nightmare Rob - fans, stewards, subs, ball boys all manage to get in the way of a potential 'money shot' and then there's always the issue of switching from long to short at the right time. Sod's Law .... And the buggeration factor I call it.

I feel your pain too, Rob. I was at Watford on Good Friday and only allowed to sit on the sideline and then only between the goal line and the 18 yard line. Spent all game trying to look through players warming up, standing still watching the game mostly grrrr.

Swapping cameras over at the right time continues to challenge me, but I am finding that if I swap to the 70-200 sooner rather than later, I increase the odds in my favour, as I can get an acceptable crop with a 1Dx even when cropping in hard.

Just checked the papers (except The League Papers as they don't have it).

There was all of 3 pics between them all !!

The Getty one that is in the link above and 2 other small Getty ones.

Hey at least it was a sunny day for it..

Just shot a Rugby League game on Saturday Rob!,
Castleford V Huddersfield & I'm sure Gary will confirm it's a ball ache of a place to shoot as your not allowed behind the try line ( I know!, Rugby game but not allowed behind the goals??), anyway, you have to sit on the sides which puts in your line of fire at nearly every play:-,

1, linesmen between you & the play (don't forget in Rugby they keep up with the line of defence!)

2, in this instance the roaming SKY cameraman!!:bang:

3, ball boys who, we now have to be polite to because a certain photographer made one cry the other week with expletive repromands:p

I could have done with a dozen "ice creams", a few to chuck but as I love ice cream a couple to eat!!, well it was warm:thumbs:
