Oh God... Just had to kill the biggest spider!

:eek: Spiders !!!

They're about the only thing that can make me screech and run away :lol:
There's just something about their movement. I can actually get quite close to a stationary spider sat in its web when I know that it's not going anywhere . . . but a spider that's indoors, or just one twitch of its leg and I feel physically sick, shaking, the whole lot :shrug:

The one and only reason that I don't kill spiders is that I just can't get close to them to do it <shudder>
And yes I know its irrational, but as soon as I see a moving spider I want to see it dead and as far away from me as possible.

Strange because rodents, reptiles, wasps in fact any other creepy crawly doesn't bother me in the slightest. I don't even mind the leeches that we have living in the pond filter.

leeches - euuch , I wouldnt say that i'm afraid of them but i dont like them much... which goes back to finishing a reed cutting task and finding one stuck on my... ahem... manly equipment

Crikey Pete...I've heard some boasts about choppers but cutting reeds down with it is mighty impressive :lol:
 
As said on "Would I lie to you?" tonight, the best way to deal with spiders is with a glass and a bit of cardboard, put the cardboard over the spider and batter it to death with the glass.

Holiday in Turkey a few years ago - it was huge !!

Yes - I did squeal - outside toilet, it run under the door towards me ......

The mistake that people make with wasps is that as soon as one comes near
they try and 'swat it'
Thats when it all goes tits up.
They will fight back, although as long as you don't actually touch it or stand in the flight path, you can stand very close to a wasps nest.
(I do it all the time, as sometimes the only way to find a (well hidden) nest is to follow a wasp :D)
Hornets and bee's, I guess are not seen as much as threat as they move a lot slower.
Both of course are capable of inflicting a very painful sting nonetheless ;)

I got stung by one the other week on my arm. I did the usual "don't move and it will go away", in fact I was so still the little sod sat on my arm and stung me when I flinched!
 
About 50 years since I was last stung, have I just been lucky?

Seriously guys, if you find one DON'T stamp on it they carry their eggs
on their backs, an impact like that causes them to hatch
and instead of one, you have ~30
I quite often find a German Cockroach (about the size of a brown cricket)
stuck to a monitoring pad, with around 30 little "dots" spread around it.
Rather like rats leaving a sinking ship. They too get stuck fast :D
They are more common in the UK than you probably imagine.
I deal with these in domestic environment on a regular basis,
and its not always the "dirty" kitchens that suffer either ;)

And to get to the queen you have to go through the hive / swarm / nest.
Not the smartest move and you will get stung if you try that ;)

Me too. We stayed in a jungle camp next to the River Kwai and saw a humongous thing in the trees. It then jumped onto the back of the elephant we were on and scared the bejasus out of my missus AND the elephant driver:( Found out when we got back that it was probably a golden orb spider, which catches and eats small birds.

LoL - though it wasnt that ammusing at the time , the damn thing was attached at both ends





til then I didnt know leeches grew to be a foot long :exit:

....Oh wait its because like spiders and snakes, they're pretty different creatures really, the fears being linked would be odd :shrug:




I can't remember the last time I was stung by a wasp/bee. Probably before I was a teenager.
