I've gone and done it now!

I've only gone and bought a EOS 1Ds MKII. All 16mp of it.

It weighs a ton and it really is going to take some getting used to compared to the 5D. Came supplied with all the discs and manuals but my first port of call is going to be a book, probably a very big book......

The 20D (my first Dslr) to the 5D was easy, most of the controls are in the same place, you just get a bit of extra functionality with the 5D but this beast is very, very different in the way it works. The menus and buttons are most definitely.................different.

Don't expect any decent pics out of it for a while! :bang:

Well congratulations Ali ... ... a beast indeed and good luck to you ... :D

Are you trying to collect as many cameras not to use as me ... :suspect:

Enjoy your new beastie ...

:p

lol, Oh no Ven, it will be getting well used. To be honest I have absolutely babied the 5D since I did buy it new. I bought the 1Ds used (obviously) but with only 10K actuations. That's 180,000 to go for the shutter then!

Looking at it tonight I think it will probably take me about 5K more to get anything decent out of it

I'm still in love with the Mamiya though

Yeah, it might take a while, but it'll definitely be fun! Stockport... snap. I live near Hazel Grove!

Don't smoke, don't drink much so I thought, why the heck not! I could drop down dead next week and I fully intend to grow old disgracefully!

Marple is more precise so not a million miles!

I think you're more likely to get better shots out of it by using it rather than sticking your head in book chap.

It's a camera, it has a button that takes photo's and all the other buttons are labelled.

How hard can it be?

Heh, I actually live on Bosden Farm estate. Went to school in Marple. Literally round the corner.

I'll tell you guys how I came to be able to afford a 1Ds because I'm a working woman, just like most of you, I get up and go out and work hard for my pennies.

I was widowed four years ago. We had spent 14 years together planning the rest of our lives and saving so we could be sure of an income later in life. We really wanted to go and live abroad. But when hubby died and all of those plans came to nothing I decided that money in the bank was nice, but so was actually getting some enjoyment out of it.

So, once a year I have the luxury of blowing the money that this wonderful government has to pay me as his pension. I'm not putting it in the bank just so someone else can have pleasure from it. I still feel guilty spending it to be honest. But then when I pick it up I can remember where the money came from and I toast my hubby for having the life that I have to enjoy it.

And what is really nice is that my partner actually approves of me doing it!

Congrats on the new purchase and don't feel you have to justify it to anyone but yourself. I too am of the opinion that we need to enjoy right now :)

Get out there and get some shots with it, looking to be a lovely weekend so ideal timing :)

Here here! You go and enjoy every minute using it . Thoroughly deserved and we have a gorgeous weekend ahead.

Please post some shots though, if the mods will allow such a file size

My dad goes mental whenever I spend money :p
He says I should be 'saving'.

Pfft! Whats that?!

Yeah right! Live for now. A friend has just bought a house, interest only mortgage and says I quote "my parents aren't going to last forever and what they leave will cover the mortgage"

Enjoy the camera!! It is a wonderfully intimidating beast at first and then you notice it is just another camera that produces VERY NICE IMAGES:D

Even though it is not a sport model like the 1D Mk XX you will LOVE the 1D AF response once you experience it...

Thanks you lovely lot!

I did ask a tax advisor once how to avoid inheritance tax and she duly informed me that there were only two sure ways.

One was to live forever............the other was to spend it!

Right now I'm trying to balance both! lol

I have to admit though, a new car with a personal plate trumps a second hand camera any day, that's style! :)
