I had already convinced myself that the leica kit needed to go as it rarely gets used. Then I scanned in a roll of Acros. Mistake.

I love the photos that come from it. The images are wonderful, the lenses render so well.

I have a Eos 30 on the way so I guess the only way to answer is stick equivalent lenses on and do a shootout. If the Canon lenses hold their own then perhaps I will let the leica gear go. I suspect they won't. Hmm.

I suspect you're right.

That Leica was a bargain, you know I thought about it for a while. If you sell it you'll struggle to find another one at that sort of price.

FWIW and IMHO Unless you really need to sell it to keep the wolf, or the taxman, from the door I'd hang on to it.

And it does produce great shots :D

You are probably right. I don't have much time to use it or deal with the films but I do love the final product. I also have a kit I am happy with lenswise too.

No problem with the taxman, in fact he has just given me money!!!

I'll take it off your hands, I'll even send you progress reports and updates on how it's doing, like when you adopt a tiger ;)

Keep it Jim. I know you're finding it difficult to have the time to use it but that will change and if you sell it you will regret it.
Also Leicas are basically camera shaped gold bars, they only ever get worth more....

Well hopefully, I've just bought a Leica II with 5cm Elmar f3.5 lens for £165.

I'd offer to do this... you wouldn't even have to pay a monthly charge for the care  :D

I'll even offer to send you a print of me using the camera, I mean what more can you say apart from yes!

We'll have to fight it out - Menthel, would you like a portrait of Kermit or a monster? :P

For some reason, that reminds me of this... the "saddest photo in the world".

The rental price for the kit will be quite pricy, more than a print!

I think i just have to keep on plugging away.

Anyway, why doesn't it get used much? Is it because of the price of the thing (scared it'll get dinged up)? Can't get on with the RF? Because it's pretty much the perfect lens + camera combo imo.

Because I don't get time! Busy job, young son and busy family life. As you can see most of my photos are of them! ;)

There's no such thing as a time to take photos and a time to live your life. They're one and the same. Put the two together and you'll have a record of the lives of your loved ones, your viewpoint and your life. Who says you have to go out and shoot some witty street scene or a beautiful model with it? Shoot what's important to you. Don't sell the Leica, integrate photography into your life and use it until the finish wears off, then pass it on to your son when he's ready.

Ok, ok I get the point! The real problem is finding the time to dev and scan. I only shoot b&w and really don't want to outsource that as it is som much part of the creative process. I guess I will just keep plugging away!

Keep it Jim,

Finding time can be hard I don't doubt but personally i would immediatley regret selling kit especially if i had a Leica.

Keep it, if you're not using it, mothball it, and dig it out in a few years time - it's a Leica, it'll be worth more then than it is now... probably unlike the cash sum deposited in your bank would...

And, as I've said elsewhere, a nice cheap EOS30 body makes a easy companion for the 7D for when you really want a proper B&W shot... shares the nice L glass, and fits in the corner of a camerabag without weighing you down

The 30 is on its way! ;)

One more update. The advice to keep the Leica may be fatally expensive as the M6 may be getting a little digital friend...

Oh do tell!

I'm guessing Mr Menthel is about to buy a M9-P...

Not quite, either an M9 or M-E dependant on how I wrap my head around the warrantee issues. It will still allow me to short beautiful acros and good old dependable hp5+ thru the M6 which I still love. I shot a roll thru the eos 30 and it was fine but I didn't feel the love. Mind you canon need to bring back eye focusing again!

Should we all form an orderly queue on the pavement outside the classifieds?

I think i still have his address from the postcard thread, could arrange for it to go missing...

Jim , dont ever say you feel a little unwell ,,,the bloody vultures will have your liver and kidneys away in the time it takes you to load the leica

I think even the most dodgy of used car salesmen would have trouble flogging my organs the state they must be in after their treatment in my youth.

One final update...

M6 has gone for the spa treatment with the people at Red Dot to clear up the rangefinder patch. Oh and I bought an M9.

Ps, any leica lovers whom haven't been to Red Dot really should. Friendly staff, good stock and reasonable prices (for leicas!).
