I did a beauty/lingerie shoot on Thursday and used a couple of 4gb memory cards, when i got round to pulling the images in to edit i found I'd lost a card! scanned my studio, pockets, bags... naff all :(

I can only think that it dropped out of my pocket when i dropped the model off. Sadly it was the first card i used and was full, second one has images but missing the bulk of them.

I need to put something in place to stop that happening again! Model hasn't responded yet to the great news as she was with me for several hours!

Bigger memory cards? I used to prefer many smaller cards but settled on single larger ones that live in the camera, then dumped to external storage when possible.

Mine stay strapped zipped - to my belt loop. Often under the belt to so it can't be torn off. Extreme measures

Forum newbie here.

Same thing happened to me. Same type of photoshoot too :-(

I still use multiple CF/SD cards No larger than 2Gb and have a Goodmans media player with 30 Gb HDD for my usual SD cards as it has a SD reader built in. I transfer my card content aftrr each shoot as an immediate safety back up.

I have also a HP notebook with a combi USB card reader for same purpose.

Finally I count cards out (all numbered) and count them back.

Strange world these days - never lost a roll of 35mm/120/220 In over 40 years of photography!

Last thought - my Goodmans media player is getting on in years so worried about its longetivity.... there must be something around to do the same job??? Any ideas?

Of course you did! :D

:lol: i get what that sounds like !! but most of the images on there were working to lingerie, the second card i have in my possession have the lingerie ;)

I've already ordered larger cards now Steven and will get something to attach them to my belt loop like DB247 said.

Yup. Use one card big enough to handle a full day's shooting. The only way you can lose it is if you lose the camera, which is a bit more difficult to do. You also avoid the risk of accidentally formatting a full card if your filing system suffers from bainfart.

Have you checked in your car, under the seat / down the back of it, I've lost all sorts of objects that way, only to find them later under the car seat :)

Buy a camera body that takes two cards. Put a big 32GB card in one slot as backup and only remove/format it when it is near full and images on it are safe.

My husband recently dropped a CF card in a meadow, but we didn't realise until a kind member of public approached us with it and asked if it was ours - we knew straight away it was, as it had a small blue sticker on it so we can tell each other's apart.

This got me thinking as to whether I should put stickers on the face of mine with my email address on them, or a file on it with my contact details. Of course someone has to find it and be nice enough to get in contact.

Mininut - I hope yours turns up somewhere.

Sorry to hear you lost a card.

I write my contact details on the back of all my cards.

I like the idea of shooting twin slots and 1 big CF card, but still feel uneasy knowing that if something went wrong eg camera robbed off me, all images would be lost.

I guess there is no ideal solution. :-(

Cheers.

Dav.

This is why it's better to just use one card. Statistics are in your favour then. It's easier to lose a card than have one fail and have to recover.

Guess we all have different thoughts on this, but for me I have a large card which stays in camera, download via USB cable (yes I know it is slow, but it gives me time to make a cup of tea before editing). This way the card is not disturbed, and I have never had any problems with cards dying (or losing them).

Looked the car, no success. :( it has the fillers down the sides so if anything drops down there and you open the door it falls out the car! great design lol

My usual body is the 1dsII but i was using my 5dII :(

Thanks guys, I'm putting contact details and maybe a reward on them for sure now.!

That is exactly how I work, large numbers of 4 and 8Gb compact flash in the main slot, changed regularly, and a 32Gb SDHC in slot 2 backing up.

I've ordered some larger cards now so less chance of losing them swapping!

That sounds like a good idea... the making tea part ;)
