Oh dear.....high level noise reduction in camera

Took a load of photos yesterday at a junior ice hockey game and having never tried out the in camera noise reduction facility I thought id fire off a few images with it set to its highest option with the plan to switch it back off afterwards.

You can guess whats coming, i forgot! Ive come to edit the images at they all look waaaaaaaay over smoothed and im struggling toghet any sharpness back. Is there a technique I could adopt in wither lightroom 3 or photoshop cs3 that could save me here??

Luckily this was just a 'practice' shoot for next seasons senior team games so the outcome wasnt too much of an issue. :help:
 
It might be possible, but without seeing any of the images it's impossible to give a definitive answer.

Can you post up a sample?
 
You could bump up the sharpening a bit and put a tiny bit of noise back in, that'll break up the plain areas a bit and make it look more natural.
 
You can use the High Pass tecnic but i am not sure if it will not help anything.
