You too Huh?
That's the second enquiry in as many weeks ;)
1st off, its the Larvae that do the damage, they are like pieces of cotton, they hide under the edges of carpets, particularly behind sofa's and heavy to move furniture, (they are clever like that)
And as you noticed they come out to graze on your wool content fibres.

Really you need to get a pestie in to spray an insecticide around the perimeters of your wall to wall carpets. ( give it a really good soaking)
That includes stair carpets (if you have them) as its easy to transfer the Larvae especially if you have the habit of walking around in bare feet.

However, if you want to DIY it, a 5L sprayer, and one of these, 15g sachets. These are professional grade insecticides, and really shouldn't be for sale on the open market.
However Flea bay [sic] doesn't seem to mind.
(Yes its also good for fleas too.)

This will kill them on contact, dry to a powder, and continue to kill them for a couple of weeks.
But for crissakes keep your cat(s) away from the area while its still wet or you ar espraying it!
Cover any fish tanks and remove any pet birds too..
Its fine once it dries though.

Don't vacuum the area once treated for 2 weeks and you may need to re-apply after that time, depending on how heavy the infestation.

Thanks Chris, (y)

Fortunately not in my home! :D

Noticed some lavae cases on one of my customers carpets (along with the chewed up loose fibres!) so thought I would ask the expert. I will find her a local pestie, as I really don't want to do it.

No worries Heather :)

In that case yeah best left to the experts TBH.

Shouldn't be more than about 60 quid, but 2 visits maybe required depending on how "bad" it is,
tell her to either search a local on line directory, of if she's stuck
Bang her details in here :)
