I don't know whether I've mentioned this but I'm going to Canada tomorrow...:woot::woot::woot:

Anyway I probably won't be able to get on line very much so just wanted to say goodbye for just over 3 weeks.

The GW690 is packed along with a selection of fillums (and some digi stuff for wildlife) the son and heir has the Fujica STX1 (kindly donated by young Hooley) and a selection of 35mm films and the wife has...well me and that's enough for any woman. :D

Cheers all

Andy

Have fun Andy. Try not to walk with a lean carrying the Fuji around :0)

Look forward to seeing the results!

Cheers
Steve

Enjoy the break Andy, and of course the photo opportunities!

Cheers guys.

Have a great trip, very envious!

Have fun Andy, go easy on the Timbits, eh!

Oh, jealousy!

I meant to ask before Andy went, about taking pitcures from inside trains, coaches etc. I get annoying reflections; would I be able to remove/reduce these with a CPL? And if so, can you see enough in a SLR VF (eg Pentax ME/MX) to know how to orient the filter?

Basic question I know! I've got such a filter, but always seem to have left it at home. Couple of shots from the Chester day were ruined by reflections, and it annoys me. It would be MUCH worse if that was the Rockies being ruined!

You can clearly see the effect of a polariser in the viewfinder, just rotate it around until you get the effect you want.

No good asking me Chris, I'm in Canada:wave:
Not shot any film yet, just out with the gw690 now so hopefully some good reflection shots from these amazing buildings.

Attack of the killer birds..........

Whilst enjoying an evening stroll along the Toronto lake front with Mrs Snap and the boy Wonder we stopped to listen to an unusual birdsong, suddenly I was attacked from above by the parents of the chick we had heard. Massively taloned and as big as the fabled ROC of ancient legend I bravely drew the hideous fiend away from the family Snap. I hit the accelerator and with speed approaching that of Bolt himself leaped away from the attack. Unfortunately I was moving at such speed that I failed to spot the slightly raised area of path and tumbled (gracefully and acrobatically) to the floor. My camera hit the ground with a clatter......the fall, which may have killed a lesser man, damaged the onboard flash and the lens hood but fortunately the camera and lens still worked perfectly. You will be pleased to know that no fillum cameras were hurt during the attack but god bless Nikon build quality, the D300 survives.

Dangerous place this Canada.....:gag::lol:

It's the bears that would worry me! But word is they're canon types.

Well I don't think I could manage a whole one, but a leg......who knows

Oh, let him have the mousse, the man's on holiday so he's allowed decadent desserts.

;)

Thanks Dean, I tried it but I found its little ears a bit chewy.

Ahhh... Give my best to the motherland for me, eh!

Sure will.

Just a quick update, I managed to pick up a minty Sigma 18-200 to replace the lens I destroyed during the bird attack in Toronto, unfortunately the AF was shot on the Nikon. A great little camera shop as well, Kerrisdale cameras in Vancouver, full of new and s/h stuff and really friendly and knowledgeable people.
Only shot a couple of rolls of film so far but off to Whistler today so the mountains beckon.

Cheers

Andy

Fantastic, Whistler was a great place for photography. Went to the top of Whistler Mountain (7160 ft) and hopefully got some good shots of the snowcapped peaks and then saw a black bear from pretty close quarters whilst we were on a chairlift.
On Vancouver Island now and it is stunningly beautiful. The 690 will be over used this week.

Cheers

Andy

So jealous Andy, really looking forward to seeing your shots when you return.

Great you are having a good time Andy, the anticipation of your shots is the same as the monthly comp.:D

Cheers guys. Bit of a red letter day for the Snaps, saw black bears and orcas today and close enough to get some really good shots. Also had a great sunset last night and have found a really nice beach for tonight a attempt, Ektar and the 690 I think.

Well, off to Victoria today for the last 3 days of the holiday. This week in Tofino has been superb, I can't recommend the area highly enough. The beaches are stunning and massive the wildlife is extraordinary and the people are friendly and relaxed.
We have seen black bears, grey whales, orcas, sea otters, ospreys and more bald eagles than you could shake a stick at......bloody brilliant.

Andy

Ok, that's enough. You've done nothing but make us jealous for the last 2 weeks. Wildlife sightings around Crewe are acceptable are one thing but all this majestic wilds of Canada is becoming a bit repetitive

^^^ WHS ^^^

Actually I don't think Andy's in Canada at all; he's holidaying at home in darkest Crewe feverishly cutting Canada shots from the travel brochures. Pics or it didn't happen! (;-)

Pics or it didn't happen! (;-)

I propose Andy returns with a Bald Eagle, Black bear and (if the bear doesn't eat it en route! lol), a Moose......they can't be photoshopped to fool us! :D

It's Andy eating the bear I'm worried about

Jealousy is a terrible thing......:nono:when I return from the wilds of Canadia and have the 18 (so far) rolls of film developed I shall prove beyond doubt that I have been at Chester zoo....sorry, Canadia for the past 3 weeks.

Oh, today we spent an hour watching a pod of 10 Orcas from really close quarters...:D
