Official Olympus E-PL5 thread. (other m4/3 are welcome too!) Show off your pics!

Very nice portrait!

I am thinking of getting the Sigma 60mm ART lens for my E-PL5, anyone got one that can recommend? or not!!

I have one, I have harldy used it, I nearly sold it midweek which would be a big mistake, have made a point to use it past couple of days, absolutely tip top 100% uber bargains, closet I have got to detail I had on the DPms is the past couple of days using the 60mm

Cheers David, saw your offer on the thread, nearly PMd you, but decided I wanted a Black one to match all the other gear!
(well I do have a silver V-F3 on it occasionally!)
It's a toss-up between that and a 12-32 Panny, really not keen on the 14-42 kit lens at all.

Sorry, meant how do you find the lens?

It is the heaviest m43 lens I have owned/used - but clearly it's relative - this is not a nikon 24-70 2.8 in size or weight :)

Appears well built and the zoom/focus rings are smooth.

In the limited testing (literally only unboxed last night) it seems very sharp and contrasty.

I found the E-M5 12-50 kit lens (aka the chipolata) to be a useful zoom range and the extra 2mm at the wide end over the 14-42 Panasonic kit lens is quite noticeable.

Initial impressions are good.

Good luck with your em1. I picked up what is now my 3rd 20mm 1.7 today.

Same here. Got one with a gf1,sold it to go to a 40d,sold that to get a g2 with a g2/ep3 and 20mm, sold them to try Fuji and now back with another purchased from camera world Chelmsford.

Managed to pick up a bargain or two from Ebay recently, so popped them in my pocket today and promptly forgot they were there!
The 2 were an Olympus E-PM1 for £47.00, and an Olympus 9mm f8 fisheye Lenscap lens for £46.57!
The combo is so light and miniscule and that's the reason I forgot!
Anyway, managed a couple of shots just before I got off with (the Mrs) shopping bags and quite pleased with this one!

Cracking price on the 9mm fisheye... I've been looking to pick one up but outside of Ebay you're looking around £90 for them...

Not sure I would pay that for one, but then again I haven't used it much yet and may change my mind. But at half price its a no brainer and well worth trying. Hopefully give it a better try out on Wednesday at pickering on the puffpuff!

anyone using a fitted case on the EPL5? if so which one?
Dont see the point, it would negate one of the best features of the EPL5, the mobile screen!

a half case wouldn't though..

one thing I instantly love about the EM5 grip is how it doesn't make the screen the bottom most part, its seems very weird but to me it has made the screen more usable so I am think of something like the Gariz as it looks like it would achieve a similar thing on the EPL5

It would have to have a big gap at the back to accommodate the screen, that wouldnt leave much of a case!
If the em5 grip fits, I would like to see that!

not long ago i have bought e-pl5 as second body to e-m5. paired it with evf-4 and.. not that impressed as with e-m5

my portable recorder gets a bit of selective focus

Wontolla I see you have the vf3, how do you find using it. I only got a epl5 as a fill in till after the new year but I find it a great little camera. Was looking at the vf2 but heard they can fall of as no lock but have a slightly higher res display. Can't justify the price of a vf4.
Thaks

I have the E-PL5 too and the viewfinder has transformed it! I find I have it on the camera most of the time.
Its true what other buyers say about it being bright, but I find that a plus, in fact with darker shots, like in a woods etc, it brightens the bits you cant see!
The colours are muted in the viewfinder, almost B&W in fact, but that has no effect on the finished image whatsoever, just frame the shot, keep the colours in your mind, and that's how it turns out. The lock is a must, and works well, I cannot see how you could get on without it. Several buyers have reported that without the lock, vf1/2, the viewfinder easily pops of, never to be found again if out in the field (pun intended).
The VF4 also has the eye sensor function, but the E-PL5 doesn't support this, so a feature you pay for but not use!
There isn't that much difference in the resolution between the two, so the lower price made it an easy choice for me, only gripe I have is that you cant get it in black!

I picked up what is now my 2nd 45mm today. Hopefully get out with it tomorrow.
