Restoration project. A 1900s falling plate camera taking twelve 4x5 inch plates.

This was as it arrived. At the moment has been cleaned up and front end mechanics dissassembled to work out replacing one very long spring and the catch that holds the shutter ready to open. Also a soldering job on the aperture plate mechanism. It will need some fake plates making to act as operating weight and hold film or paper firmly. Perhaps by summer.

A generous person on Twitter sent me a package today - a Canon AV1 with two lenses! Also a creative filter and a small flash - really generous :) The zoom lens seems to be quite hazy, but the 35mm is very clear. The seals need replacing but the shutter speeds sound good. Very pleased! IMG_0597.JPG
 
That's a nice gift, I'll look forward to seeing some results from it. Be careful with the battery chamber door on the camera as they are apparently prone to breaking, so read the instruction book and be gentle if you have to open it!
 
Trouble is, after using that for a bit, Charlotte is going to want a Canon A1, you know how easily these things can snowball! :LOL:
 
My Xmas gift to myself landed on my doormat today. A 1936 Leica iiia with red scale elmar. I've been wanting a screw mount Leica since fondling a iiib earlier this year in Harrison's camera shop (Sheffield), it left quite an impression. It's just beginning to brass nicely (as I think that these barnacks should after 80+ years of life) and once serviced I will put it to work and allow the patina to develop some more.

Doubt it was a month before I bought an F3....:/
 
Found this Agfa challenge to Kodak's Instamatic range on eBay. Uses Agfa's Rapid cassettes (aka Karat cassettes) which are no longer available but I have a dozen of them and it is simple to decant film from a normal cassette into one of them so I shall be trying the camera after the festivities are over.

I got an unopened Orwo NP20 in a rapid cassette from eBay recently. One of my Agfa cameras takes them. I got it from a seller who sells rare film, I think he had a few more. The box is a bit battered but it is 25 years out of date.

I've also just bought a Nikon FE body, Nikon F80 body and I'm waiting for an 80mm f2.8 blue dot lens, for my Mamiya C220, to arrive. I already have an FE but it is faulty, it doesn't always wind on fully. My other 80mm has seized up and the F80 was one that was missing from my collection. I have lots of compatible Nikon lenses for both cameras.IMG_20171130_184121_508.jpg

I finally caved in and picked up a Leica...

Well, ok, it’s a tin of fudge but in my usual way, I’ve found that a 120 spool fits perfectly so I’ve got two choices;

1) Use it as a 120 film holder..

2) Fit a pinhole to the front and make it into a working camera..

Decision decisions!

Seoul is my new favourite place for medium format camera shopping. It's even better than Tōkyō in terms of selection. I hadn't really intended to buy anything, but ended up with this bad boy anyway.

Anyone ever used Camley Photographic? They seem to have a lot of items in stock, but I've never heard of them... Which is weird as I spend a lot of time looking at camera shops online :lol:

They have an eBay shop, maybe they started there and upgraded to an online store.

They've only been trading 5 years though, according to their About page.
 
Looks like they have a lot of stock and it doesn't seem to be overly expensive either.

Thanks. Prices in Seoul are largely on par with here, I’d say. This Pentax kit was about £450ish earlier this week.

The film, which I bought in Japan the week before, is cheaper than the UK, especially the 160NS, which has jumped to more than £30 per box. It’s about £21 per box in Japan.

The FE is a really great piece of kit - in aperture priority, with a 35mm/50mm prime, is the perfect hassle-free film shooting experience. Set aperture, focus, shoot - so simple, and such a solid piece of kit in the hand. The only reason I moved my FE on was for an FE2!

Ah well Leica has the name....but this is only a Nikon F4 and is a nice camera and I wouldn't mind having it, but to me it's a silly price when you think a few years ago was going cheap. Well I can understand the price if a collector was buying it in original box and never used.

funny you say that the FE2 is the only Nikon semi-auto I now own it is that good.
 
When it was introduced the F4 was $3500, it was the best camera in the world (apparently) and was considered to be the camera that brought photography into the modern world.
Yes, a few years ago they could be picked up for a lot less but thats the same for everything and there are quite a few film cameras that are much more expensive now than even 3 years ago, Olympus mju for example.
For a mint example like the one in the listing I think that that is a reasonable price especially as this one has been tested and calibrated.
Its only worth what someone will pay for it and too much is a very subjective amount. ;):)
