yes it's definitely heavy as hell but it feels so good holding it, it's quick too. Time for some film motorsport shoots i think.
 
Getting a bit of a thing about Film compacts and picked these up at the Malvern Flea Fair earlier in the week,the Olympus must be one of the most stylish film compacts ever made

Voigtlander Ultra Heliar 12mm f5.6 Ashp II + Voigtlander 12mm finder, red soft release, and a Billingham Hadley :)

Can't wait to get out with this lens amongst the HK skyscrapers! Unfortunately we are in the midst of a band of tropical thunderstorms at the moment, will have to wait til the morning.

Had a bit of a panic when the meter started not working intermittently, but I cleaned up the terminals on the battery compartment which were a bit grubby and all seems to be well again.

Picking up my new toy tomorrow afternoon, will take a picky of it when I get home. Next to my enlarger and sink its the physically biggest film item I will own and cost more than the 5x7 enlarger and 7ft sink put together.

Your welcome to guess what it might be?

Nice one Mark. My widest on 5x4 is Schn 72 SA XL and Schn 165 SA on 10x8 - I tend to use these configs for architecture.
For landscapes, I prefer letterbox 6x17 back on 5x4 with Schn 110 SS XL or Roddy 135mm Sironnar-S.

What a fantastic and creative idea - love it. Why stop at 645? I'll try in my 6x17 for l-o-n-g and s-k-i-n-n-y letterbox images

I absolutely love photography (well, that was a revelation, what with me being on this forum and all that) but lately I haven't been able to give it much time. You know, a combination of work and other stuff conspired against me; I'm sure we all go through similar periods of inactivity. I also said to myself that I should at least make some inroads into digital, but that's another story.

So I decided to take stock of my photo gear; I lovingly took them all out and I was slightly horrified at how many I have. There's that lovely, near mint Canon AE-1P. Then there's that professional level Olympus OM-2n, it too in near mint. My first ever SLR, a (slightly battered) Pentax ME Super. There's another Pentax ME Super, in a much better condition (because I liked the first one so much and hey, what happens if the first one breaks, huh?? Plus, it was nearly free, OK?!?). The Olympus MJU II was there too. Oh, and the Pentax Espio Mini. So, quite a collection. I sternly told myself that THIS-IS-IT, no more cameras. Besides, how many cameras can you shoot at any given time?

So this morning, while I was waiting for the kettle to boil I had a look at The Bay. Oh, what's that, a Canon A-1? £10 starting price? With lens too? Pfff.... Anyway, I am now the proud owner of a nice A-1. Mine for £10. :bang: Now I know I didn't break the bank or anything, but still, I'm not doing very good. Anyway, I just wanted to say, in public and with witnesses, THIS IS THE VERY LAST FILM CAMERA. PERIOD.

...and in a nutshell, this is my film related story for this weekend :shake: Hope you're all having a grand weekend!

A small milestone, this is my first image from a view camera, a Linhof Technikardan 23 with a Leaf Aptus digital back

Although it is just a snap to me it is as rewarding as any photo I've taken, it took me about 20 minutes to get the right combination of movements, to be honest I should have used a touch of swing as the tip of the left wing is a touch soft, but it is the achievement.

I am hoping to make this my main landscape camera, and keep the Mamiya for rush shots.

What you don't all do that? I've just been using lightroom to convert my images to black and white and then apply film grain for ages now, I thought that was the joke! :)

Not a new toy as had it a while but in need of some advice.

From the sound of the rattling when shaken, it sounds possible that there is still some magnesium ribbon left inside.

The issue is that the two halves are rusted together in places and i can't get them to seperate....Any ideas??
 
Sat down tonight and built the camera :-)

No film but will get some tomorrow and post the results.

More photos of the build on flickr, some parts are quite tricky and I forgot to take the protective film off the mirror, which accounted for the dark image in the view finder. It almost deserves a retro camera strap so I will be looking out for one. The waist level view finder will take a little getting use to but does seem sensible given that a prism would have been expensive or reduced light. The lens is changable but at present I don't think lomography make any other lens Something wider than 50 mm would be nice or even fast than f10 !!!

Try WD40 on a cotton bud and slowly apply to each rusted area until they is movement and then proceed to the next area, slow,but,maybe effective, just make sure that the cotton bud is just moist, no dripping please.

May have to do it over several sittings if my patience gets the better of me!

I would use 'Plus Gas' in preference to WD40. It's a proper penetrating oil unlike WD40. It appears that they still make it and it's available on ebay.

Well I'd never heard of 'Plus gas'.....looks ideal tbh.

I'll have a dabble with WD40 to start with, simply as i already have some knocking about.

If no joy then i know what to buy....Cheers Nick!

Cromwell tools is a good place to buy if you have one locally.

Yep, I do like how that turned out :)

In fact I still have two seal kits left over so I'm keeping my eyes peeled on ebay for a couple of cheap trips to do some more.

If you have a diesel car then diesel is a very good for penetration, also good for killing weeds in places like..... where the pavement (or bitumen) meets your front garden wall or fence.
