I think this is one of the most beautiful cameras I have ever seen. I hope it produces good results for you... I am in awe of anyone who uses large format.

It seems in good condition, but the viewfinder is crap. I have to squidge me cornea against the tiny window to see the frame. No battery in the meter, but will try the thing out soon. :help:

Niice - though as a picture, it's crying out for the 50mm 1.0L or the 85mm 1.2L instead of the 50mm 1.4 ;)

sorry - sold both the 50-1.0L, the the 50-1.2L and the 85mm 1.2L last year, just wasn't using 'em, and it was a serious chunk of money to leave in the camerabag.

I would love to own one of those bit can't justify it either unfortunately. I am thinking of adding another l lens though, the 24-70 2.8 I think it would go well with the eos 1- v
 
I really should avoid this thread...every visit has be checking ebay for prices as lust overcomes sense.
 
Just to add to the thread, I've borrowed a couple of MF cameras off a colleague to add to my plan to shoot more film this year.

Apologies for the picture quality, it was a late night iPhone shot so I'll take some better ones when I can. This is reassuringly heavy and the WLF is great to use. I developed the first roll from it last night (Ilford FP4, ISO125) and am impressed with the quality of the shots when I nailed focus. I've only done rough scans to check the output (standard flatbed then inverted/edited on ipad) so am borrowing my same friends' V700 at the weekend but I'm liking the size of MF negatives compared to my usual 35mm :0)

The second camera I've borrowed is his Mamiya 645 Pro TL with 80/110mm lenses and 120 back. This is a different beast to the Kowa and feels much more like I'm used to with shooting Aperture priority and auto-exposure. In some ways it feels like I'm 'cheating' more than the Kowa but I'll see how the negatives come out when I finish the roll at the weekend (Ilford PanF, ISO50)!

An exciting new package arrived from deepest, darkest China this morning. Inside was this little beauty, and I'm now the proud owner of a Chamonix 045f1:

Those little 90s are very nice Nick, and having seen what Woodsy did with it it seems like a good copy. That Nagoaka is very shiny :D

Its a Sinaron-S 210mm 5.6, it's a beautiful little lens that is apparently an APO design that performs really well to my eyes.

Indeed it is. I was looking at the ShenHao models but in the end went for the Chamonix based on a perceived slightly higher quality (which I'm sure isn't really noticable) and I liked the look of it more. That and Hugo from Chamonix was ridiculously good at answer my questions over Chinese New Year and despite being many time zones away, better than most UK companies at least :thumbs:

I've been playing with it taking some macros for this months POTY and it's a joy to use :D
 
I'm sad today. Popped into cash converters on a whim and they had a x-700. Wanted one for ages and it was a boss price nd it had a perfect 50mm 1.7 on it. Bought it, went outside and sat on a bench. Put batteries in as I always have spares for the x-300, put some Tri X in it and....... nothing.

Must have been the capacitors. Would have cost me more to have fixed locally than I paid for the camera. So I took it back for a refund :(

The cash converters did have a few film cameras in though which surprised me as I always pop in and there are never any. Nearly bought another Trip for twenty quid but I resisted!

Guess I'll have to carry on searching for a decent priced x-700!
 
Not actually mine (yet, but I'm working on it). A guy in work brought this in to me and said I could borrow it for a few weeks. I felt he wanted me to offer him a price but I'm just holding back until I've run a roll through it.
Nice tidy little camera in near mint condition, makes a lovely noise when the shutter goes off.

It's a Zeiss Ikon Contaflex (I think II) from about 1955 with a neat little Zeiss Tessar 45mm f2.8 lens. Although this was the consumer version of the Contarex it is still highly regarded. Built like a tank, typical German engineering.

Anyone used one?

That looks lovely, never seen one before.

I will bring the level down a bit, Fuji Instax Mini 20 with 2 photos left, definitely expired as one came out blank and the second was purple and faint. £3 was worth it I'd say.

I've got one (your camera is identical to my Contaflex II). It manages to produce quite a dated look, which I like

Unfortunately I tried it out again last week and was carrying it round with the shutter cocked most of the time and it produced the weirdest light leak along one edge. I think it must be the baffle that blocks the film plane when the mirror's down that leaks the light. It might be alright if I just cock it before I take the shot.
 
Had some money sitting in my PayPal account so thought I'd take a punt on a Mamiya 110mm f/2.8 lens from this Japanese ebay shop as the price was a sizeable fraction of one for sale at Ffordes and it was described as being in excellent condition. It was a BIN or offers so I offered and was accepted.

I was a bit concerned when the seller listed another 110mm with the same photographs and practically the same description as I hadn't had any contact from them since making the payment last week so I emailed them. No reply, then at the weekend the sale was updated with a "dispatched" note and today my lens arrived. :)

First time in ages that something I've imported wasn't held for customs duty and the obligatory Parcel Farce extortion, which was a nice surprise. That was topped by the next surprise when I opened the box and discovered a lens that could almost pass for brand new. There are a couple of very small marks which don't affect anything and no dust at all. Very pleased, even though I haven't had any time to get out and play with it :D

Before you lash out any money on the Contaflex, I'd give it a good work out. They are notoriously difficult to repair I believe. Mine has the the following faults:

- Slow speeds are off
- Iris doesn't appear to close down to f16 or f22 quickly enough
- Self timer doesn't run ( I wouldn't test this, just assume that the self timer is u/s!)
- When it's cocked it leaks light along one long edge of the frame.

On the plus side it has one of the very few selenium meters that actually work, although the correspondence on the film speed dial between ASA and DIN isn't the same as it is today. I just set it to 320 ASA for Tri-X and that seems to agree with my other meters.
 
Cheers Nick. The slower speeds are definitely off on this one as well, the light meter seems to be quite accurate though. I shall know a bit better when I have finished off the film but I'll probably give it a miss, too many cameras sitting unused in the cupboard already. :thumbs:

Got a replacement bellows for my Deardorff yesterday. Although the red insulation tape was effective in blocking the pinholes, there's nothing quite as smart as a new set off bellows. Now all I have to do is try to justify keeping 2 large format cameras :eek:

Seems that nobody has noticed the lens is 50mm not 5cm. Usually millimetre markings means a Russian fake as Leitz always used centimetres. As far as I know.

Andy has an early lens there- the f stop numbers tell you that for one. Some of the earlier early lenses have the mm marking rather than the cm marking. Leica in its early days was rather inventing the standards as it went along so things do change over time.
 
^^ Exactly, the very early Leica lens can be in either cm or mm. I can assure that this has been checked out by one of the top Leica-bods on the Leica forum and he has confirmed its authenticity.:thumbs:
Funnily enough it was the body that I was more worried about but it is a Leica I from about 1931 which went back to Leica for a conversion to a Leica II in 1934.
