OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

Anybody here buy the TWO Mamiya RB67s off ebay yesterday (Sunday). Both with a lens fitted, + filters. Looked in very good condition. I was interested in them for the lenses alone, but when bidding got to above £200 I lost interest. Winning bid was £430 so someone got one hell of a bargain.

so, today I increased my collection yet again :)

Ensign Ful Vue £1.99
Agfa Silette £1.99
Kodak Six 20 Junior Folder, £3.99
Medium and Large Format book £2.99

and about £20 quids worth of filters and polarisers thrown in

Been after one these for ages to compliment the Canon F1N body.

1.2l FD by tonky8203, on Flickr

Got this for a good price and it's mint so I'm doubly pleased.

Just paid for Rolleiflex 3.5e. Can't wait for it to be delivered. Picture to follow.....

You'll love it. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay and what sort of condition? And dealer/eBay?

Got it on the Bay. Item :160817156378

Very decent for the price you paid IMO. The Bay II lens hood is worth £30-40 on its own. If you could get a copy of the receipt for the fungus cleaning off the seller, it would help for any future sale (not that you'll ever want to get rid of it, but y'know).

Thanks. I was afraid I'd paid too much. I'm reassured now.
Watching for the postman. Hopefully it'll be in my hands early next week.

That's a lovely Rollei and a bargain price for a camera in that condition. You're not going to get nice versions of such a classic camera dirt cheap.

Well done!

The description seems quite honest as well, although I notice they didn't actually say whether the light meter is working or not, just that it had one. But aside from that it looks like a solid shooter, and I reckon the 3.5E is the best bargain out there. None of the excessive weight of the 2.8s, none of the inflated price of the F.

@CT Gorgeous lens, I'm jealous! I'd be interested to see some shots at f/1.2!

Todays new addition... I was visiting my dad this morning and mentioned my renewed interest in film photography alongside my digital and how I had revamped my old fujica st801......When he pulled out of a box a absolute mint Olympus pen EE-2 half frame camera, I can remember dad using this camera probably getting toward 40 years ago ( I cant believe how clean it is, and it all still works including the selenium meter )

Looking forward to putting a roll of film in it....anyone else use one ??

Steve.

Awesome little camera, it was the first camera in my collection that I put a film through. Just get out and keep shooting with it, the 72 exposures is a wonderful thing!

well up next ,one borrowed one bought .someone at work asked me if i would run a film or ten through their old camera that they hadn't used for about fifteen years ,its not in the bestist of condition ,but when i saw the first lot of negs from it ,,wow ,,,the trouble is i want it now ,,so if anyone can tell me what model it is , and what they think it might be worth i'd be very grateful " cough " fc2 " cough"

Looks very much like a Rolleiflex Automat - the bottom lens should probably be a Zeiss Tessar (it should say it on the ring around it). If you could give me the serial number (which is on the ridge just above the Rolleiflex name plate), I should be able to hone it down to a specific model.

In general though, they tend to go between £100 (eBay) towards £175 (dealer) prices. IMO, it is one of the best ways to get into Rollei world and TLR - faster controls than a Rolleicord, better build than most other TLRs and with an absolutely classic lens design; and a much better budget option than many of the overinflated TLRs like the Yashica 124(G).

Your one looks in user condition though, and as the glass is likely to be upwards of 60 years old it probably isn't in perfect condition. It would still make a great shooter, but likely worth <£100.

[all personal opinion - some people are likely to estimate higher, some lower - and this is all without handling the camera]

thanks for taking the trouble to reply fc2 ,,,cheers
right , on the name plate ,,to the left of the serial number the letters DRP then in the middle the number is 1165579 then to the right the letters DRGM

and yes its the tessar 3.5 lens ( zeiss - opton )

Just bought a film camera - a Nikon F80.

This is my first dip into the world of film. I think it will help me to slow down and think about each picture more.

Can only use my 85mm f1.8 and 70-300 lenses at the moment. The rest are DX. Need a 24-70mm.

Currently blasting a B+W film through it to test it's working properly. 6 to go.

My mate has developing kit and a negative scanner so will probably get it done next weekend. Can't wait.

It's really funny when I instinctively look at the back of the camera after each shot. Must get out of that habit.

Yours is indeed a Automat, specifically a K4. They were made between 1949-1951 - yours is a later serial number so closer to post 1950. This is good, as pre-war Automats are obviously a lot older whereas the Automat you have is only slightly older than most Rolleiflex models - Rollei was just starting their lettered models around that time, the 2.8A being released then.

Exact pricing is difficult because I don't know more about the condition. Things like:
  • how does the focusing screen look
  • viewing and taking lens
  • is the film chamber clean?
  • Does the focusing go smoothly from infinity to closest distance?
  • Any excessive play in the hood?
  • Magnifier in good condition?
  • Slow shutter speeds accurate?
  • Aperture blades clean?

etc.

You're not alone. I do it when using my OM10

It's a love thing. Managed to ruin a roll of Velvia though. Incorrectly loaded. Meter is hit and miss.

Got a Weston, so no problem..

Forget to put the film underneath the roller I take it? Bizarrely, I did exactly the same thing... with a roll of Velvia as well. Must be the curse of E6!

I managed to mess around with the roll in a changing bag so it was as new again, and aside from a slight light leak on part of the roll it was fine in the end.

I thought the meter might be a bit erratic - given that they missed it out in the description. But it looks in very good nick, and the meter is merely an add-on - if the lens and mechanics are all good, that's what the Rollei is for

Film, roller.....yep....short learning curve.
Seems ok, although might need infinity focus adjustment. Need to shoot a roll and see how it turns out !

Might be worth taping a reminder on the back for your first few rolls - I got very used to the loading procedure on the Yashica Mat so I kept forgetting the film roller thing for the first few rolls I loaded into the Rolleiflex. In case you hadn't read already, the film rollers "sense" when the transition is made from backing paper only to backing paper + film (i.e. it senses when it gets thicker), so the first image always starts in the same place and you always get your full 12 shots with no leaks.

Thanks. The tape idea is a good'un.
I'm loving the focus screen by the way. It's got a split prism.

Nice! I notice a couple of things there that would make shooting with with Rolleicord easier, like the shutter speed and aperture displayed in a viewing window about the viewing lens :D

Think I'm going to have some fun with this.

Will you be making lenticular prints? Or just scanning them in? Just had a read about Nimslo, very interesting; I'm quite intrigued!

Oh Trev that looks fantastic.....I am exceedingly jealous (runs off to beg financial controller for more pocket money)

Seems rather meager following a lovely Rolleiflex, but I'm very pleased
The viewing lens is a little dusty but the taking lens looks to be in excellent shape and the rest of the camera seems very nice, bar the shutter button which seems to have lost it's springiness a bit (I expect the spring is a little gummed up), but it's still perfectly functional. Even came with an original case, a yellow filter and a "Heidosmat - Rolleinar 2" close up lens set which I wasn't expecting.
Yes, that is a Canon EOS digital strap on it, it's the only one I've got spare at the moment. Please forgive me :naughty:

Looking good, better nick than mine plus it has the nameplate which mine doesn't have.
