OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

No Black QL17's for a tenner then :( dammit

No luck Mark, and I've been getting at the bootie 8'oclock in the morning and been looking for months as well....other than the usual camera gear there was something different :- a folder, Retina 1b, for king Arthur and a Lubitel for the lomo crowd.

I got a nice Minolta SR-T 303 with MD 50mm f1.7 for £20 last week, despite the description of being in 'good working order', the light seals are knackered but I've got some coming to replace them.

I'm going to see how the CLC (contrast light control) metering works in comparison to a standard centre weighted meter. Its quite clever really, you have 2 meter cells, one top and bottom instead of 1 in the middle so that the meter is fooled less in high contrast situations and is the forerunner of modern matrix/multi metering.

I'm currently working my way through one of the 3 135 rolls of Kodak Technical pan that I picked up on ebay for £12 a few months ago. ISO 25 is slow enough but once an orange filter is mounted that ends up giving exposures mostly like 1 sec at f8. Hopefully I have found somewhere (Palm Labs) that can dev it in the special Technidol dev.

I've received today what is one of my biggest bargains for years, an ebay seller was offering what looked like a very nice condition Black OM2n body for a Buy it now price of £28 or best offer, plus £5 postage. I then noticed that he was selling two within the same advert. I thought I'd make a cheeky offer of £25 each for the 2x bodies (plus £10 for RMSD) on the proviso that the second body was in a similar condition to the one advertised. About 1/2 an hour later my offer was accepted with a note that the body shown in the listing was the worst of the two.

The package arrived this morning and when I opened the package I was shocked by the contents, as well as the two very nice conditioned bodies (which had had replacement light seals) there was a 28mm Tokina RMC, a 50mm Zuiko f1.8 and a Vivitar 2x MC Converter. There was also a colour negative film part used in one of the bodies which I had inadvertently exposed when I had opened the back.

I emailed the seller to ask if the lenses had been put in by mistake and he replied that they were the last of his OM kit and thought they deserved to go to a good home. I will not sell these lenses (I already have them covered), but will probably offer them next year (with a body) to someone beginning as a photography student, as I did this year with the Ricoh kit I aquired.

I've said it before, you're a legend Ed!

I just bought a bargain Polaroid back for my RZ on eBay, £39 delivered! Now to order the film and wait for it to arrive!! Gotta love new toys!!

I picked one up a couple of weeks back from ebay as well, ordered some bargain Fuji film from 7DayShop which arrived a couple of days later. They've got short dated silk finish Fuji for £6.29 atm.

Left-hand grip for the RB67 arrived today, bit of a whim and I'm pleasantly suprised with the way the body handles with it attached.

That's a good price for a Polaroid back Danny, 7DS has the best price I've found for FP-100C.. nowhere I've found has what I'd call a decent price for FP-3000B though..

I've been toying with the idea of one for my Mamiya m645J. Just need to find a cheap one in nice nick...

Oh, and talking of the m645J, it has been recently treated to a plain prism finder (godsend for vertical format pics with 645 compared with using a WLF, though I do like the WLF for landscape) and a 55mm f/2.8 Sekor C to go with the 80/2.8 N that I already had. £75 well spent between the two of them.

Ran a roll of very expired Ektachrome Elite 400 through it yesterday, that I'd found in a drawer at home. Kinda curious to see what comes out.

Do you know which scans better silk or gloss?

I'm debating the L-grip for the RZ too, although I also want a prism finder. I don't need metering so I think the PD is my cheapest option?

I watched polaroid backs for a few months and I think it's the cheapest I've seen one, £35 + £4 postage Buy it now. Which scans better by the way gloss or silk? I'll order some film tonight for it along with a few other 120 films

Danny, I think I've gone for gloss every time so far and it seems to scan ok. I'm waiting on a friend returning the FP-3000B I shot at his wedding to find out how well that scans.

The image area scans ok, but the tacky bit round the edges can be a bit untidy.

I'm not entirely sure about the RZ, but with the RB Polaroid backs I've now bought two and they're different models. One came with the P-Adapter and one doesn't need it. I think there are a total of four different Mamiya Polaroid backs, plus a couple of third-party models - the Swiss Arca one looks good, it somehow lets you take two side-by-side images that fill the image area without the heavy black bars.

I haven't tried a prism finder, the WLF is awkward at first, but you soon get used to it. The weight penalty for carrying a prism seems not worth it to me.

I did think gloss would probably scan better, I'll grab some of that.

I noticed when I was looking, there's a "model III" RZ67 polaroid back I came across, so I assume there's a I and II to preceed that, god knows which one I've bought, fingers crossed it should work ok though!

Should prove useful for checking lighting, as well as as alternative to 120 in some cases, I might even do a few polaroid only shoots, I'm retro cool, it's how I roll :bonk:

I'm finding directing models confusing as anything when using the WLF, lol.

Picked up a Mamiya/Sekor 500TL 35mm body from real camera co today, wasnt a bad price at £20 but it needs some work doing, new seals, advance lever is a bit loose and its a bit grubby. Still, gives me something to do with my spare time and it was my first film camera until i sold mine to a friend who is now touring israel with it :D

I was given an old Pentax Super EM, 50mm, 28mm and 70-210mm lenses AND a manual praktika with 2 lenses.

All for free

Just need to get a bolt for the Pentaxes winding handle and it is good to go, rang up a camera repair shop in London yesterday and they wanted to charge through the roof for fitting a single bolt :(

I don't know yet, I've only shot the gloss so far but I've got some silk on order, I'll post some scans up when I've done a comparison.

If you just want the bolt and are happy fitting it yourself, try JP Camera Repair in Edinburgh. Joe has all but retired and has a huge stock of cameras and parts, he might be happy to send you the bolt. Best to send him an email as telephoning can be a bit hit and miss.

If he's unable to help, Miles Whitehead is highly recommended by me and others.

You are a legend, I will try them this afternoon!

Very kindly got given a developing tank and an enlarger. Time to get some chemicals and get myself thoroughly confused!

I managed to get hold of a broken version for £4 from http://www.rockycameras.com and it should be arriving tomorrow :D

My Meike battery grip arrived today...delivered to work...so **cought** doesn't see it.

Feels really well constructed and fits nicely in my hands.

Looking forward to using it.

Now...what's next on the every growing list of 'must haves'...:bonk:

Hmm - what Film Camera would that be for

Back to fillum cameras and my ebay Nikon FM turned up this morning, heavily wrapped in bubble wrap and parcel tape. Once I'd managed to break into the mummified delivery, the camera is in pretty good condition overall but with no life from the meter.

I changed the batteries for some new ones, still no joy. Then after a fiddle with the few controls, including the pre-Ai mount switch and taking the batteries out and putting them back, it sprang into life! I wasn't systematic so I don't know which thing kick-started its heart but at least it lives. :)

The shutter speed dial is a little stiff, something that'll probably improve with use. I get the feeling it's sat on a shelf for a while until I bought it. One thing that's a bit annoying, the seller described it as having some scratches on one side - it actually looks as though someone's tried to force the film door open. The rewind crank lever is also a little loose, which points to someone pulling hard on it. If only they'd read the manual first, they'd know that there's a safety switch to disengage first. Still, it looks light-tight but I won't know for sure until I run a film through it.

Quick comparison of the meter against my D70 using the kit 18-70mm DX lens and it appears to be over-exposing slightly. With the T90 away for a service, however, I don't have a full-frame equivalent to check it against.

Still, given the price I paid, I'm still pleased. Just need to get an Ai lens on it now and go shoot :)

A film camera to put it on?;)

Finally got round to going to the post office before work to pick up goodies I'd missed last week.

RZ67 Polaroid back
3x FP100C polaroid packs
A few rolls of HP5 and portra 160 in 35mm to test my ME Super for the first time, and also try 35mm film for the first time ever! Very excite (ala Borat!)

Medium format to 35mm... not something that happens a lot!

:nono:

I was given the ME Super by my uncle for free, I'll be using it for snapshots mostly. I've got a long weekend in Tallinn with the Mrs next weekend so it'll be ideal for taking with me, it's so light

May well try it on a model shoot soon too and see how it performs :)

I've just received this little beauty, a Nikon 50mm f/2 AI from Greys of Westminster. Much more expensive than any listed on ebay but it's exceptional, it could have just come out of a Nikon box. The paint is clear and clean, the body has hardly a mark on it, the focus is silky smooth and the glass is so clear it's amazing - not one spec of dust anywhere in the lens. Of course, being Nikon, I can pop it on my D70 too :D

I'd forgotten just how good Nikon manual gear feels. Looking at this kit, I'm in danger of having a gentleman's moment :$

Oh yeah, I meant it in a "it's unusual to hear of a medium format shooter who has never tried 35mm before", I know you are probably going to stick to medium format for the important stuff.

I kinda dive in at the deep end...it's how I roll, all or nothing :cool:

Shot hundreds of rolls of 120 before I went near 35mm.
I don't think that was necessarily a good thing because my appreciation for 35mm is minimal.
Its more convenient but......always 2nd best.
Maybe if I'd started on 35mm, I wouldn't be trying to make MF do what 35mm does with a lot less effort.
Maybe I'd be using the right tool for the right job instead of just being a tool...:)

*high fives Mahoney for being a tool*

High five fellow tool lol

Big old bit of glass for my Speed graphic which is slowly being restored:

IMAG0068.jpg

Kodak Aero-Ektar 178mm f2.5, stupid thin depth of field on 4x5 and it weighs a ****ing ton! These were originally fitted to WW2 aerial cameras (Kodak K-24, shoots 5" roll film) in US bombers, mine is a 1944 build lens and apparently in '44 these cost $800USD a piece!

If you want really stupid they also did a 1217mm F6.8 lens that covers 9X16"... now that is a big un!

Is that really as enormous as it looks?

Reckon you'd need a WWII bomber just to lift it :)

Yes! Front hood is 120mm dia, the elements measure about 80mm front and 70mm rear, weight is probably about 1.5kg at a guess, build quality is substantial. If you drop it on your foot it would win, they were designed to be squaddie proof after all! I've been looking for one for a while, this one was cheap enough (due to lazy ebay ad).

They actually have a lens similar to that fitted to 5"x4" roll film aerial camera like you described in a museum about Twinwood Airfield near where I live, I remember thinking how bloody big and heavy it must be!

Isn't David Burnett using an Ektar 2.5 for his speed graphic as well? Cool thing!

Yep they have quite a following, because the speed graphic has a focal plane shutter you can use any old barrel lenses, There was a LOT of these knocking about in the states after the war and they were effectively sold off as portrait lenses for studios after the war to recoup some cash. Some of the aero camera are really crazy, you get things like vacuum back plates to suck the film flat when taking shots! One of the bigger Kodak Aero Ektars I saw came with a helicoiled focussing mount, you could read on the side 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, metres etc I then noticed underneath the multiplier X1000!

Need to get the speed graphic sorted and get it mounted to play!
