OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

My Olympus Family (rather larger than first envisaged)

Nice collection Edward, I have had to limit myself to just the one OM2n, they're great cameras but I can't justify having more than one. Would like to get hold of an OM4ti but then I'll have to let the OM2n go.

Nice oly collection. My SP is the only camera that I wished I still owned, such a great system!

Thanks, it all started as a bit of a trip down memory lane. Back in the day, after finding my first camera a Zenith TTL a bit limiting I bought into the Olympus system, first with an OM10 and then an OM2n. I had moved to Nikon by the time that the OM4 and OM2SP had come out so never got to use those, but always loved the image quality of the Zuiko lenses and especially the ergonomics with the shutter speeds around the lens throat and the front aperture ring.

With the exception of the OM4Ti which I bought in nearly mint CLA'd condition from FFordes and the OM4T that I bought from Dean on here for £75 all the other bodies have cost less than £60 each inc shipping. I didn't count on the cost of the CLAs though and have had both OM2ns and the OM4T CLA'd (the reason for Dean selling it to me for £75 was the fact that it needed a CLA). The OM1n I will get CLA'd last as I really do not see me using it too much (or the OM2ns either come to that). The OM2SP though is a beauty, it is in great nick, the meter is spot on with both OM4s and will be probably end up being my go to camera for Tri-X.

All these Olympus bodies probably wouldn't matter so much if I hadn't already bought into a Pentax system which also has a couple of bodies currently being CLA'd by Miles, then the big decision will come.

Olympus vs Pentax???? :bonk:

Which Pentax bodies (and lenses)? And what Nikon bodies did you shoot with, just out of interest?

Which Pentax bodies (and lenses)? And what Nikon bodies did you shoot with, just out of interest?

Pentax Bodies are: a very nice LX, a Super A and a couple of ME Supers. Lenses are SMC PK 28mm f2.8, SMC PK 50mm f1.7, SMC PK 135mm f3.5, Takumar 28mm f2.8 KA, Takumar 135mm f2.5 PK, Ricoh 35-70mm PK, Tokina 17mm f3.5.

I also have a very nice Spotmatic SP with Yashinon 50mm f1.4.

I also have the following which can be used on either Olympus or Pentax: Tamron 28mm f2.5, Tamron 17mm f3.5, Centon 500mm f8 Mirror. I am also looking for a nicely priced Tamron SP 90mm Macro for portraiture.

As for the Nikon Bodies, over the years I have had an F, F2A Photomic, F3HP(x2), F4, FE, FE2 my usual bodies that I used for 35mm weddings were the F3HPs but my favourites to use were the F (Plain unmetered prism) with old scalloped 50mm f1.4 and an FE2 using AIS primes. I bought an F4 when they first came out, but was always really wary of the size of it and how ostentatious it looked, so I sold it early and bought another F3HP. I also started with Digital from the D100, D70 and D200 with which I used the kit Nikkor 18-70, Sigma 70-300 APO and the remainder of my manual focus lenses.

I have never owned an LX before now, but always liked the look of them and have fancied one for ages. I bought a very nice copy from ebay for £195 but it suffered from the sticky mirror issue so I have sent it up to Miles to have it CLA'd, I have used a Pentax Super A before and it is just like an updated ME Super really.

I have to say though that to date, I have never enjoyed the feel of a camera as much as I do the OM4T/Ti the spot-metering is really great and the highlight and shadow buttons just do all that I want as I usually meter from one or the other anyway (much more accurate than using a grey card).

That's a lot of different 35mm bodies that you've been through, wowza. And some absolute classics as well.

I never mentioned my other favourite a Contax 159MM only had two lenses for it though a CZ Planar 50mm f1.4 and an CZ Planar 85mm f1.4, and don't even mention MF kit

Theres a foreigner on the right though - looks suspiciously like a Vivitar 283/285, sadly my 285 had a short on the battery compartment a few months ago so it wouldn't charge, I tried to repair it and then to top it off it took a somewhat fatal tumble down the stairs whilst I was carrying all the bits up.. :(

Have to get another one soon, thats probably the best flash ever made for non TTL flash applications...

Yep, it's a 285, great flash but definitely analogue only.

I've accumulated so many 35mm cameras, I have to split (i.e. transfer) a roll of film between at least 2 cameras to give em all a workout :)

Snap, just got some FP100c silk and gloss, polaroid back and pentax 67. Silk test shot.

Where did you get the back from and does it simply link onto the Pentax 67 back?

I realised a few weeks ago that I was in danger of becoming a camera collector instead of a photographer so I'm going to thin out the collection over the next few weeks.

Finally got a strap on the LX! What a nightmare it was! No joy finding a genuine one, then it was rumoured that Medium format ones would alos work, so ebayed a 6x7 strap, which didn't fit! Wedding approaching, resorted to the Optech Pro A from Bristol cameras - only to find out late taht they didnt actually have stock and have no idea when they'll get more.

Back on ebay, managed to find just the optech strap ends, which finally arrived today (bearing in mine I needed the strap 3 weeks ago!) and after alittle chopping, the ends are now devoid of optech strap and are atached to the 6x7 strap, end result, a camera I am now not so paranoid about dropping!

Also shown is the lovely new lens hod that arrived yesterday!

It's far easier to attach and detach that strap than the cheap thing they insist on sticking with on modern Canon bodies. :gag:

Attaching it was ok, removing it will require a screwdriver, so no worries about it falling off!

Those clips on your LX look like Hasselblad V system clips, they certainly look different to my LX clips.

Yours will be proper Pentax ones, mine are Optech's cheapo equivalent ("Super Pro A"). They do fit Hasselblads, kievs and Bronicas too though, apparantly.

It was a chance meeting, but something I couldn't pass up. I saw her there waiting for me, yes she had admirer's but I knew that she had to be mine and I wouldn't stop until she was. There was anxious moments as others tried to make a pass at her, my heart sank, I couldn't believe it she was going home to someone else. But then, at the last minute she gave me a glance and I tried one last time to sway her, success! she was coming home to my place and I couldn't believe my luck! She was coming home to me after months of wanting some"body" just like her.

She's blonde, she's nearly 18 and she arrived in the post yesterday.......

A cheeky boxed Contax G1 complete with Carl Zeiss 28mm 2.8 Biogon lens!

I was on ebay listing items when a "watched" item came back to haunt me, i figured i was clearing out cameras so went for it  I am very happy with it, just can't wait to get out at the weekend for some proper pictures :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Well quicky romances don't really amount to much usually, but I think you might be on a winner with this one. :D

Have a good look at the back of the lens mount for any sign of a green deposit on the metal mating surface.. It can happen due to some sort of reaction between the metals I understand. It's no problem if there is - just wipe it off.

thanks guys :D

CT, i've just had a look and you were right, a greeny-blue deposit where you said. I had been concerned about such a substance but i'll be honest, it hadn't occurred to me to simply wipe it off  so thanks for the advice :)

I'm yet to see if the 28mm is going to be the lens for me, but i've taken a shine to shooting architecture with my digital camera so i'm hoping this nice wide lens will aid me there. i've never had anything this wide for film yet :)

The 28mm is a cracking sharp lens - in fact they all are, with the 45mm f/2 Planar being the daddy of the lot, Bloody hell - you did well on the price -the lens is worth more than that!

I think the greeny blue thing is some sort of oxidation from constant mating of the two surfaces over very long periods. I keep my lenses off the body when not in use and don't get the problem at all.

that's why I had to have it! I've been saving for a Fuji X10 when they're released next month but decided this was too good an opportunity to pass up. I've been hankering after one for months but couldn't justify the expensive lenses. the G1 bodies go relatively cheap now, so to pay an extra £100 or so for the 28mm I was made up. I'm already eyeing up a 90mm for some street work but that's going to have to wait

i'll bear that in mind, i'll be sure to pick up some caps for storage then. thanks for the kind advice :)

My local Boots stock loads of the CR2 Lithium batteries. The camera takes two so it pays to keep at least a couple of spares by you. Look forward to seeing some sample shots then. :D

I can't find a shot with the 28mm to show you. This one is with the 21mm....

Mall by tonky8203, on Flickr

There's virtually zippo distortion with wide angle lenses.

Lovely camera.....too nice for shoving in a back pack with other gear or sandy beaches or places where it could get nicked, but maybe the lens could be used on a cheap Yashica for those places.

Nice.
Was really tempted by Contaxs a few weeks ago but glad I got my Hexar.
Had to open her up today for a bit of a shutter button clean but she is back together and working better than evr now.

nothing too special, but feeding my lust for fast primes!! my XR Rikenon 50 f2 just isnt fast enough (as special as it is!)......

What's this "green button" you speak of?

if using an older manual lens on a pentax digital body, the green button (if set up correctly) will stop down the lens to the aperture selected on the aperture ring and set the required exposure

......erm how many film cameras have this goodie ;)

Oh, I always got the impression that mounting Pentax lenses on a digital Pentax body was as simple as whacking it into manual/aperture priority and shooting from there?

Nope, the trouble is the mount uses two levers to communicate with the camera - one turns with the aperture ring and tells you the set aperture. The other is the stop down lever which the camera uses to close the iris. This is fine on M bodies, but when they introduced A lenses there was an electrical connection that also worked with aperture. Trouble is some film bodies and digital ones rely on this connection, so when you put an old lens on without the electrics the camera has no idea what it's looking through and the metering goes all whacky.

It's essentially the same problem I had on my vivitar 19-35mm when used on my super A - the lens was teling the meter what aperture was set and it was calculating accordingly, but at the same time the lens was stopping down without telling the camera so reducing the light level a lot more as the camera thought the iris was still wide open when it wasn't ....

Granny bites back?
The stall at the bootie was ideal for a bargain...granny in charge lots of stuff and in the middle was a Iford P&S and two lenses one a Pentacon 28mm/f2.8 but the other was a 135 f3.5 Carl Zeiss sonnar....I picked up the sonnar and said "so how much is this one" and she replied "£20" erm in my granny language reply "That's a bit dear" expecting her to reply "How much do you think it should be".........and she replied "my son says this lens goes for £40 or £50 on the internet" :) and she was about right.
Anyway on another stall picked up a hidden gem:- Minolta MD 35-70 f3.5 for £5 a bit tatty but the glass is ok.
