MODS ...............NOT trading just doing a favour

mothdust, When I bought the Halina 35X I did not know what light meters were, or that they existed. I relied on the instructions on the film carton, ie sunny, f16; cloudy bright f8; dull, f4, etc. I cannot recall any slides or negative shots being over/underexposed in daylight. I might have been lucky, but I learned the hard way, I suppose. My next one was a Zenit E, before eventually getting into the field of the 'big lads cameras.' Proper slrs and the like. Got myself a Nikon FM recently at cheap price, because the meter was not responding. Used a light meter and 100% success. However, I have been told to rotate the speed dial, and also the ISO dial frequently, and now there is 'life' appearing in the meter. Some well informed and talented people here have suggested repair solutions, but when I was a kid I could not even change the tyres on my Dinky cars, so I am not going to start dismantling a camera.

Luckily the camera came with a manual, with instructions like that on the back. Maybe I'll wing it and see what happens! Mind you, it seems to be for old film, Scheiner speed? I'll have to see what the ISO equivalent is, I guess?

Have a read of this thread.

mothdust, Having just read your post I went and got my 35X. There is no film speed setting on the camera at all. I relied on the exposure settings as quoted on the film carton,so perhaps that is why I got things right re exposures.!! With shutter speeds from 'B' to 1/25th; 1/50th;1/100th; and 1/200th of a second, it is a camera for the brainier ones such as you and me. The remainder of the camera geeks on Talkphotography would not be able to use it. Just use any speed of film and follow the carton, or use a light meter.

Had to laugh today at the bootie:- camera for sale had a grip, auto winder, and manual adapter smothering an OM10.

Brain?! Film carton? These are things I do not possess! :P All my current films are expired jobbies (I like the weird colours) so maybe I'll have to find a new box and see what that has written on it.

And thanks CT for the Scheiner - ISO page, very useful. Totally going to be crossing my fingers and hoping for the best :D

I've just spend the most money yet on a film item and bought .... a Pentax LX.

Now I need to shift some other stuff to fund it, the Minolta XG-M left this morning and the Konica is on ebay...

Very nice! The most ambitious offering ever from Pentax. Great camera - I had one years ago. Is it in nice nick?

Not remotely, it looks like it's seens some action. It's coming from Rocky Cameras who describe it as well used, so that speaks volumes I think!

Still, the cheapest on ebay is going for more than double what I just paid, so a CLA will be a wise investment I think. Actually ever BIN MX on ebay is more than I paid for this LX, makes me feel a little better! :D

Here's their pic LINK

LOL.That's seen some action and will no doubt go on for years! Great OTFP exposure system.

So I hear, I can't wait to get to playing with it. First thing I'll do of course is a nice cliched photo with the viewfinder off looking at something on ther mirror...

LOL.

I sold mine to a mate years ago when I swapped to Nikon at that time. He rang me up later saying he was really worried as there was a 3 or 4 stop difference between the LX meter and his hand held meter. I told him to bring it round and I'd have a look, but that I'd been using it regularly and it was bang on.

He brought it round and sure enough I was getting the same difference with my hand held meter. I rang my camera repair guy who said to bring it over straight away and he'd check it out. On the way over it suddenly dawned on me how dumb we were being - the camera with no film in was metering off the black pressure plate! :D

Sure enough when checked out it was bang on.

Not a new toy per se, just found my dad's old flash... I know, I might fry my 5D, but I'm loving flash too much... I'll have to order a YN-468 before I do something stupid :D

More like a Toy Boy rather than a New Toy

Another trip to my favourite charity shop, this time for a rummage through the compact box (ok, so it's a filing cabinet)..

Yashica Minitec Super, 33mm f/3.5 - with a fresh battery installed it sounds good.
Olympus mju:ii zoom 80 - with a fresh battery it seems DOA with an occasional "E" on the LCD

The Yashica looks like fun.. the Olympus, well, I'll have a play, see if I can resurrect it, but for a few pounds it's a risk you take with charity shop buys. It could be a motor problem, there was a film jammed in the back with a tear to the film strip.

Some short dated Fuji C200 from Boots (cheaper than Poundland).. and I managed to avoid the temptation of a Fuji Instax 100 in another shop down the road.. even at charity shop prices, that's one ugly camera..

Well, that was a quick fix.. found a manual online, the fim hadn't picked up on the mju and the contact lock on the sliding front is a bit worn and needs to be puched further than I thought. Tempermental, but usable..

Looks like both the Minolta and LX have disappeared into the bermuda triangle. This is getting ridiculous now.

Yashica FR 1, from *bay for £10. In beautiful condition apart from the film speed dial not rotating as it should. Anyone with any suggestions as to how to free it, in an elementary fashion, ie.- no top plate removal, or the like ?

To try it out I should be able to adjust with the exposure compensation dial ? The film speed dial is stuck at ASA/ISO 80, - one step below ISO 100. I am using ISO 200 negative film.

Or use a handheld light meter, and set aperture and speed as per that, and ignore the readings in the viewfinder ??

IIRC the film speed dial should just "lift and turn", can't think of anything obvious that'd jam it, other than getting stuck/rusted down

Well a little good news, after getting Paypal involved the LX magically turned up this morning, it does (or did it seems to have stopped now, but for how long...?) have stickymirroritis but ovral actually looks a far sight nicer than the phoo showed overall.

Now then for a bit of eeny meeny miney moe to decide whether it's going to Miles Whitehead, Harrow Technical or Asahi Cameras for it's internal examnination...

Picked up another Olympus OM2n in black today along with a Zuiko 24mm f2.8 both in mint condition for £80... That now means my daughter can take my old chrome OM2n with her to university next month when she starts her photography BA! :)

Happy days! :)

before i go and blow hundreds on some medium format gear i thought id make sure im happy with film first. So a quick £30 at the car booty this morning got me this pile..

Chinon CE-4 50mm 1.7 seems to be in pretty good nick
Ilford Sportsman 45mm 2.8 - seem to be pretty knackered but might be some life in it
Canon 100-200 5.6 lens which i think has an adaptor somewhere to fit on the chinon but not too worried
A couple of flash guns
Power winder
A nice case
Assorted filters and odds and sods.

Never heard of a chinon before but its feels lovely in my hands and after looking around the web i think i just about got my 30quids worth if it all works :suspect: Will just have to bung some film in later and see how she runs.

Chinon was a range of cameras made for Dixons and sold solely by them.

Alerted by the inlaws while on holiday in Cornwall that a nearby antique shop had an interesting falling plate camera and that I should take a look, I did. I ended up having an hour long chat with the proprietor. He was a former architectural photographer in London who'd jacked it all in a few years ago to do some things he enjoyed more. Discussion ranged from the ins and outs of RB and RZ 67s vs Mamiya 645 for toting around a building site, Georgian architecture and comparing pubs that we both knew.

After all that, it would have been rude not to buy a thing and I ended up walking out of the shop with a very tidy Rollei 35B for £35, which wasn't such a bad buy. I've been meaning to get one one day anyhow. :)

My first ever SLR was a Chinon CE4s and I loved it,in fact I Would buy one if I could find one

I think I know where there's one for sale... A friend of mine owns a printing shop here in Aberystwyth and sells the odd film camera.

If you want, I'll take a look tomorrow and let you know.
Cheers,
Si

I always fancied an OM4Ti but at the time had a Nikon outfit.

Cannot believe the original cost of the body

I paid £249 for the body (it's near mint) and £65 for the near mint 50mm f1.4.

I've won a Zuiko 35-70mm f4 (£35), Zuiko 70-150mm f4 (£6.49), T32 Flash (£25), and a F280 Flash (£35) just need to find a nice 21mm or 24mm Zuiko now.

I have serious lens envy, that's a beauty :geek:

I need to get my stuff lined up for a few photos, been collecting bits and pieces for a while now and have built up a nice little collection of OM kit.

OM2SP black body
OM4T black body - US-market OM4Ti, only difference is the top plate and the price on ebay!
OM power winder 2

OM Zuiko 50mm f1.8
OM Zuiko 35mm f2.0
OM Zuiko 135mm f2.8
OM Zuiko 300mm f4.5

Vivitar Series 1 24-48mm f3.8
Tokina 80-200mm f2.8 AT-X
Kiron 28-105mm f3.2-4.5 (macro 1:4)
Kiron Match-mate 1.5x teleconverter for OM
Kiron MC7 2x teleconverter for OM

I've also picked up a Minolta Hi-matic 7s and Agfa Isolette II from the forum and got a Zorki 4 with Jupiter 8 lens from the bay.

I haven't listed everything out like this before, beginning to wonder if I've got the beginnings of a problem! :bonk:

Course, next thing will be to get my films developed and put some pics up for review...

Vivitar Series 1 24-48mm f3.8
.

Is that any good - I've been huntingone for a while, they seem quite rare. I like the focal length, and had aTokina 25-50mm F4 which was a handy lens but rather poor IQ especially at F4.

Try looking for one of these:

http://www.adaptall-2.org/lenses/13A.html

A Tamron Adaptall SP 24 - 48mm f3.5 - 3.8.

These are extremely well regarded and even better as its an adaptall lens, you get the correct mount adapter you can use it on pretty much any SLR. So for your OM system ones you can get one for them and for your Pentax cameras get a KA mount so that you can use the 'A' setting on your Super A.

Haven't had a chance to shoot much with it yet as we moved home just after I got it but I'm impressed at the build quality and feel.

Seems that a lot of the Series 1 lenses are like hen's teeth. I snagged this one from ebay after recognising it from a poor description - it has a Pentax lens cap and was put up as a Pentax lens with an Olympus mount.

I have a Tamron Adaptall 28 - 70mm f3.5 - 4.5 and thats also quite a nice little zoom for when I don't want to carry around my 55mm and my 28mm or need to change the focal length quickly. Its also especially good because I can use the open aperture metering on my Spotmatic F with it as I was able to get hold of an ES adapter for it very cheaply that has that function, which actually makes the Adaptall series the only third party lenses to implement the open aperture metering function. I just wish that my Vivitar Series 1 80 - 210mm f3.5 had it as well.

I'm just trying now to get a matched hood for it, I found one in the US but I'm not paying £24 for it when the lens only cost me about £9.75!

Tamron optics are actually rather good and people should give them another look before just dismissing them as cheaper, less quality. Kiron were another excellent lens manufacturer (Probably because most of their staff were ex-Nikon!) and they made my version of my Vivitar Series 1.

Well to add to the wide and varied items on this thread, first this arrived:
