OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

Eek!

In unrelated news, £35 has bought me a nice Canon FD 35-105mm f/3.5 in my ongoing FD lens purchasing spree.

Cracking performance for a zoom.

I will PM the number in the advert as I don't think it is fair to post the number here.

They're a lovely lens and no mistake, and regularly go for far more than that  In fact I've often seen the dedicated lens-hood for this lens go for near to that amount!

Received, cheers again , will drop him a line - looks like it may be a Zuiko one though.

bought myself a canon t90 with a 50mm1.8 yesterday, fully working with a 3 month garauntee for 100 quid.
put a roll hp5 in it last night, im itching to use it!!

I'd heard it was good, but I didn't want to pay the best part of a ton for one. Got lucky with a BIN.

A spin with it at lunch time on m4/3 digital to check it out has left me very impressed though - equal of quite a few of my primes.

On Friday the postman brought me a nice present - an Olympus OM 16mm fisheye lens. In perfect condition, proper caps and a very reasonable price - just £150! It's really small - only about the same size as the 50mm prime on my OM4Ti - and is the star of my OM lens array.

NOTE do NOT buy a Canon from this man....whatever the price...

I resent that comment... I'm a profeshional  :bonk:

actually its pretty simple inside, I think I can see why so many of them have duff AF systems, the connectors between all the flexi circuit boards can oxidise quite badly if moisture gets in there.

That looks lovely, the Oly OM is a very pretty little camera almost as nice as the Pentax spot range.

nothing fancy, but got a vgc Canon AE-1 from eBay for £19 delivered...

it's a ''nostalgia'' purchase as it was my very first SLR many, many moons ago

added my French sis-in-law Sigma 24mm, loaded some film...will see how it goes...

I know what you mean about Nostalgia Purchase John - every time I see a black AE-1p come up on the bay, i'm sorely tempted. Has to be a black one though - even then I had a thing about all-black camera bodies, the "panda" ones never do it for me somehow

For anyone interested (and heaven knows why you would be), I'm still searching for a MINT OM2SP black body to start me off on my own expensive nostalgia trip.
Aint found one yet though.

I've got one. Just thought I'd rub it in! :D

Last week I picked up a Polaroid back for the RB67, from the advert I was half-expecting a third-party back as the photo wasn't clear and the price seemed too good. I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a genuine Mamiya back complete with P adpater. I've already learned Lesson 1, there are no interlocks with this back, it will let you shoot with the darkslide in place!

Well, after years of visiting the local charity shops have finally come up with the goods - found a chrome Yashica MG-1 rangefinder in E++ condition for £12 in Oxfam. Apart from a little dust, it looks like it came out of the factory yesterday. It'll go rather nicely with my Electro 35 GTN :)

Shutter, seals and aperture blades all look good. I think I have a spare battery at work.

Another shop had a tidy looking Yashica 24 and Photavit Photina TLRs for £45 each, but 220 film rather put me off the Yash and it was a little too much for a casual punt on the Photina.

As you might just be able to make out from the photo above, I also picked up a copy of Philip Glass' akhnaten for three quid and some Arvo Pärt recordings for 50p each. :)

Not exactly a new toy as it's not mine, but I got a Nikon F90 with a 50mm Nikkor f/1.4 AF lens to use for a week, will be fun :) Before this one I was using an Olympus OM-1N with a 50mm f/1.8 Zuiko lens.

Remember the pair of 19mm primes I spied on the bay? Well the Pentax is in the bag at £38, stil waiting on the results of the OM one. I lost out on another 24mm F2 this time Pentax fit, that went this morning for £93. 50% more than the one I bought last week! - I should have just old it on!:p

EDIT: Lost the OM one, that went for £72. Pentax users must all have been watching the football!

You can rest easy on that point. No, it didn't include a hood.

phew..!...well as Mark says, they go for about £30-40 when found

a good alternative was suggested on photo.net FD section - to use a 72mm Nikon HN-9 - which I found before finding the correct BW-72B

which is now up for sale ....:naughty:...''here''

cheers...john

just got myself Yashica FX-2 and Praktica TL1000 :)

erm...my worst buy recently was a Yashica FR1, as two DSB lenses I have (28mm and 55mm) are carp, and my ML 135mm f2.8 is just an average lens. What annoys me is:- the total cost of £25 for all this carp might not seem much, but the £25 would have been better used towards one decent lens that I haven't got.

I got my toy around the same time too! A little bit more than what you paid for but still a bargain, I thought, until I saw what you paid for it!! :-O

Camera is still at the repair shop so can't really test it out :-( how's it been for you?

Managed to quell the GAS - it's been nearly 90 days since I bought any film cameras.

Just finished a roll with some shots from the fisheye but not had it developed yet so a bit soon to tell. The metering seems to struggle at wider apertures - bizarrely showing very long exposure times - but I think I read somewhere that can be a 'feature' of this lens and that the actual exposures should be OK. We'll see soon enough!

That's great!! Looking forward to seeing pictures if ** posting any up!!! :-D

Went out with it attached to my EF body today which I haven't used for a few months. Altogether an enjoyable experience.

a) this reminded me what a lovely, bright viewfinder and satisfyingly different shutter sound the EF has.

b) The 35 f/2 SSC I'd bought a couple of weeks ago dramatically made its Thorium-induced colour known (I've been using it on my Panny G2 up till now).

Maybe not so good for the can of Superia 200 I had in. Time to pop some XP2 or FP4 in there.

c) I'm now hankering after an F1N. Grr...

Oh, and I have somehow bought an AE-1 Program for £17 + p&p. Mostly to find out what the breech-lock FD lens was as it didn't look like any 50mm variant I knew in the blurry eBay photo.

When I'd enquired, the seller responded that it was a 'Hoya Skylight'

[am I going loopy?]

Have you checked the aperture coupling lever? My Vivitar 24mm did that, when I looked it was because there was no lever, and it hadn't been telling the camera (OM10) what aperture was set!

In unrelated news, my Vivitar 19mm arrived today, and is suprisingly compact, on a par with a 50mm. Despite it having led a rough life (you can barely make out the writing on it, the uv filter is jammed on and attempting to remove it removes the front of the lens too, there is grit in the focus helicoil..) The glass is immaculate, the iris is perfect and the A setting works too! Can't wait to give it a try out.

***the uv filter is jammed on and attempting to remove it removes the front of the lens too***

Well I had that too on a lens, rather than use a few drops of lighter fluid or whatever, I was unscrewing the ring that holds the filter in place (as I was going to saw the filter off) when surprise this freed it from the lens, and I unscrewed the filter off....mind you, you have to have something to fit into the slots of the filter holding ring.

Busy day on the 'bay... I got an FDn 28mm f/2.0 that I'd had my eye on for £83.

Swore that would be the last thing I'd buy this month when I got a 2nd chance offer on a cheeky bid for a T70 with a FDn 24mm f/2.8, FDn 50mm f/1.4, FDn 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5, Super Ozeck II 75-300mm, Canon 299T flash and a bunch of other bits and bobs (tripod, filters, etc.).

The only thing I was after was the 24mm and the T70 was a bonus, but I couldn't really turn it down... all for the princely sum of £54 delivered.

I scratched that particular itch a while back - absolutely awesome camera. The laser etched screen is probably the brightest I've seen and manual focusing is so precise. The spllt image screen doesn't black out either - even when the lens is stopped down.

There are a couple of very nice ones on ebay at the moment...
