OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

I was going to shoot a film in it first, see how it goes, but i'll keep an eye on that, thanks. Also received an Industar 50-2 today :)

got mine off eBay

John Goodman at ''Interslice''.......''here''
complete DIY kit and excellent instructions

Jon's a top bloke, even if he hasn't got a kit advertised just tell him what you need and he'll sort something out for you. I've used him lots over the last couple of years and he's always produced the goods

Oh dear... some of the light seal around the mirror fell off onto the prism, wouldn't come off and now it's smudged. What do i do now? Buy a new camera? Live with it? :p

Always learning ;)

Wipe it off using high purity isopropyl alcohol and a microfibre cloth.

The camera and lens I am sure have probably been used maybe once or twice. My girlfriend thought it was brand new. It's all MINT. Was planning to sell the N65 so i can concentrate on using my F301 that i got recently but decided now to keep it!

Film I got was 3 Kodak Max 400 and one Kodak 400 B/W (c41) and then one Fuji 400 "all occasions"

From the bootie today for £15:-
Minolta X-300 with case and 50mm f1.7
Vivitar 28mm f2 yep f2 version
Sun 85-210, now this is wierd in that it mounts onto a Minolta camera but nothing works...the mount is close to Minolta but not the same as the slot in a lug is different and has a stop down pin like the M42 screw lenses...erm wondering if it's a very old minolta mount, but google is not much help..or maybe it's a machining cockup from new.

sun.jpg

Mystery solved, as it's a M42 screw lens attached to a Minolta P adapter.

This was delivered last week, a Tokina ATX 80-200mm f2.8. Not bad, getting a f2.8 constant zoom for under £100. Just need a chance to get out and take some shots with it now!

Hopefully this week I'll also get my Vivitar Series 1 24-48mm f3.8 back from having its aperture blades cleaned :D

bought a super sweet mint Minolta X700 and remembered that I have a sigma miniwide II 28mm f2.8 to stick on to it.

also a - meyer gorlitz 35mm f2 , I've seen pics in flickr and it's a killer, unfortunately no camera to put it on to :(

Got this today:

Had it in pieces this evening - needed new light seals for a start, then also took it apart to clean the lens and aperture assembly. The red flag wasn't popping up because the meter wasn't going to the low position when the cap was put on, so I tweaked that too. Have a roll in at the moment, so will take some snaps, check the exposure and if all's well I think some new leatherette will be in order!

That is a great looking little Trip 35. Condition is lovely and it has the metal shutter release rather than the later black plastic one.

Where did you get it and what did you pay?

I personally love mine, which was £5 from a charity shop. My sister has one as well from Trip Man http://www.tripman.co.uk/ . They are just great for sunny days, point and click and fairly small. I used to carry mine everywhere just to grab simple photo opportunities on the fly.

Thanks! Got it for a tenner, so slightly more than yours! I'm interested to see how the exposure turns out after having to tweak the meter. It agreed with the SLR for the low light exposure (you know this from then the needle allows the red flag to pop up), and it has a sensible reaction to different light levels, but it may still be out.

Yeah, it's small, light and I really like its looks! If the meter does turn out to be off I'd be tempted to pick up a replacement in any case!

Mid -week all being well!

It turns out there was a bit of a sting in the tail with this lens. On coming to use it, it transpired that on the 'B' setting the shutter was very unreliable often firing a nondescript sort of instant exposure. I contacted Hasselblad UK who quoted me a price for a full service, and then the original vendor who promptly refunded me that amount with no argument at all - absolute gent!

Just this morning I have received the lens back from Hasselblad and it's perfect.

Today received a Jessops film retriever...and hey it works. Got fed up with the high prices of the Ilford version so got this for £2 inc postage.

'Super Carenar' 135mm prime, f2.8. About £15 on the bay, but it doesn't look like it's been used at all. Can't wait to try it out :)

Looks good  I do like the look of the proper motor-wind (rather than the power winder block I've got), and that 35-105 looks tidy. I still think they were pushing it by describing it as a "macro" though

Might have to warm up some film and take the A-1 out myself tomorrow now - feeling inspired

is there a manual to download about the lens...?

the MA motor drive is very comfortable as a grip

the battery carrier takes 12 x AA batteries - really very heavy
but i have a second AA battery carrier which I can plug in [empty] and use the MA Drive as a grip
ones forefinger falls naturally on the shutter release button ....:)

weather good - working the weekend though............:bang:

Well - when I bought my first one (the one that was on my AE-1p when it was nicked :'() I seem to remember there was a folded bit of A4 tissue-paper thinly translated into 8 languages from the japanese in the lens box. The gist of it was it fits on the camera same as other lenses and if you turn one ring the picture gets bigger or smaller, and if you turn the other, the picture goes in and out of focus

I just found this thread and it is fantastic!!! I've read every post start to here! :D

Last week I bought a job lot of Praktika cameras from ebay, you can have a look here. I know it is not the Canon stuff you guys have here but I remember my Dad having a Praktika when I was a kid and we had so much fun with it! :D

The MTL5B is the only one that doesn't work. I am scouring the web now looking for a repair manual or any kind of exploded diagram to take it apart. It just seems that the shutter is locked. Can't wind on and pressing the shutter button does not fire the shutter.

I'm really pleased with the other cameras too. I've used the BMS with the nifty fifty that came with it. All I have to do now is pluck up the courage to get the film developed. :gag:

I was just wondering if anyone knew about lenses for the MTL5B? It has a screw thread. The BMS has a bayonet thread so it seems easier to get lenses for. I bought a 70 - 210 Macro zoom on eBay again yesterday for £9 delivered! I think that is a crazy price!

Anyway enough of my over excited rambling!

the 24mm one is def better than mine. the 24mm one is called superwide .
got the pics back from shop - they are ok. nothing special, about average. really not bad but nothing to praise about.

i just picked up a canon EOS 1n HS from the classifieds here and its an amazing piece of kit, also i recently got a contax 167MT and a carl zeiss 50mm f1.7 T* will upload a piccie or 2 when my film scanner gets here :) some nice equipment you guys have acquired here, nice going :)

Nicked from another forum... (one comment quoted for brevity)

I have a number of Prakticas from an L to a MTL50 and I've run into the jammed winder a number of times, and have successfully "Un-jammed them, What worked for me is--

if you remove the lens and look in the front of the camera -on the upper left side, near the back, there is a square metal tab---this tab is hung up--not sure, but I think it's probably has to do with the double exposure prevention lock up----take a small screwdriver or pen and push the tab towards the rear of the camera, while trying to wind on/press the shutter release.

If that doesn't work, take it to bits and find out how cameras work. It's pretty much a given fact that the first one (at least) you dismantle will never work again anyway, so why not start with a broken example of a camera that's only worth 50p (scrap metal value) when its working! You've nothing to lose, and a source of small washers screws and springs to gain!

Cheers Mark, that may well work. If not as you say I have something to look at how it works. Love taking things apart and putting then back together. Thats my Friday night sorted!! :D

Drives my wife nuts!

Am I right in saying that the lens mount is an M42 Screw mount?

Iirc it's a M42/1mm screw mount, yes, though it's a long time since I had a Practika (MTL3), and as it got dropped half way down the Aig. du Midi in the alps maybe 26 years ago, things are a little hazy

Well I would hope that you were not still attached whilst it was dropping!!!

fortunately, I was firmly attached to the belay on the Bivi Ledge we were going to be passing the night on, as was my rucsack and most of the other kit. I'd just taken a sunset shot, put the camera down and turned around to remove the pan from the stove for a brew, and the camera fell off the ledge. First point of contact was around 300m below, second bounce maybe another 400m. Two more saw it hit snow and disappear. It probably sank 20 feet  Fortunately, my Dad wired me the money for a replacement camera as a belated 20th birthday pressie, and I bought myself a Canon AE-1 prog. for the rest of the holiday.

Good grief, that's quite a story!!!

I wonder if someone ever found it when the snow melted further down? That would have been a state and then some!!!

The sigma 24mm superwide II is a very good lens...always impresses me when I use mine. But I can't find a super wide hood for it and am thinking of filing down the petal lens I'm using which is a sigma but from a sigma 28mm lens.

have a look at other manufacturers..?

the Canon FDn 35-105mm 72mm diam hood is quite rare ... and about £50 on eBay ATM ...yeah right...

on photo.net [ FD Forum] some bod suggested a Nikon NH-9 72mm will work

found one at Ffordes for £9......:D....so worth checking about

The 24mm sigma lens is 52mm....I thought a good test for hood would be to check by looking thru the viewfinder and using a finger to see if any problem, erm well it passed the finger test but failed the results test

shot with Sigma 24mm with an annoying petal hood:-

well - hows this for a bit of arts and crafts... this site has downloadable templates for lens hoods to make from strong crapft paper. Make a few that you think might be right, and try 'em out, trimming if needed. Then get a plastic one that fits, and use the fitted paper one as a template to dremel the plastic version down to size.
