OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

To be fair, getting the ti in my sweaty little hands was also a bit of a let down - I too thought it would be a little more... substantial. Loving the dashboard though :D

Thought I best update this thread, so here goes...

This is it for now I think, currrently spending a bucket load on kitting the D300s out for a bit of macro work. But watch this space...

Nice set. The Pen is very cool looking. Let me know how you get on with Pocket 20 as I have one but need to look at the light sealing the bellows.

I guess this goes here :D

I was recently telling my Dad I was looking at Digital SLR cameras, but due to how expensive they where, couldn't afford one. Especially as I hadn't even used one before.

He told me he had his old film SLR somewhere, and if he could dig it out, I could have it. He's nice like that.

So now I am the proud owner of a Canon EF-M. A quick internet search has shown it might not be the most amazing camera in the world, with no auto focus at all, but due to my happy outlook on life I am looking at that with the "It'll just help me learn to focus" in mind.

So today after work I picked up a new battery and a role of film. The camera shop in town only had one type of film, Fuji Superia X-tra 400, so that's what I've got. Though walking through boots I did spot they seem to have more choice so I'll head back there I guess in the future.

I'm going to head out at the weekend iwth the camera and just play around with using the lens and things and see how it pans out.

Any tips for my first time using an SLR camera?

Cheers

Take your time and enjoy the fun of taking pics the old fashioned (and best) way. Have a look at 7day shop and AGphotographic for cheap film (7 day are cheap but a little slow).

Andy

And if you're going to rely on the high street photo processing, then make sure that the film you buy is marked C41 process. Anything else will need to be sent away for processsing, and may cost quite a bit.

If you're wanting cheap 'try it and see' film then Poundland sometimes have some in.

Lovely cameras there. My brother has a collection of old cameras gathering dust!! Brownies etc.

Oooooh - stoppit will ya!

That looks in nice nick. It's a monorail camera, so more of a studio camera than a field camera, not that you can't use it in the field, it's just not so convenient to lug around.

Must resist! :D

I've not got it in my sweaty mitts just yet but it's in transit, on it's way:

Hopefully I'll be ready to go after my next round of Night-shifts, Tue coming :)

At this rate everyone on heres going to have a LF camera!

Well I've spent the last year or so debating whether or not to go down the self-build LF but I'm struggling with finding time for anything at all. So I bought a ready-made one. Anyway, it's taken 30+ years for me to graduate slowly upward from 110 :)
At this rate, I'll be 90 before I have an 8x10!

I'm still looking at moving into 120 format but I think I'll hold it off for a while until I've finished off a bit more of my 35mm stuff in the freezer!

I might just go on ebay sometime and get a cheapish folder just to have a go.

Some nice looking Large Format cameras there. I managed to resist and bought a Pentax 67 instead.

Not mint but work fine.

You lucky .....

Thats the camera that I dream of getting one of these days when I have the money. Pity that Pentax no longer sell them in Europe or the USA or I'd buy a new one when I have a nice high paying job...

This arrived today, £9.99 from evilbay, Voigtlander Vito B. Seems to be in excellent condition and everything works smoothly.

Popped a film in so hopefully will have some pics later in the week.

Woo! Just got a Pentax SF7 into my sweaty hands :) Won the auction yesterday for a grand total of £12 including an AF 35-80 lens and almost exactly 24 hours later I have the camera. I'll sell the lens for a bit more than the cost of the camera and use my 50mm 1.4 or 24mm 2.8 on it. I've not done any film photography since getting into the hobby, but I wanted a camera to stick in my bag for opportunistic shots and thought that a film SLR would be ideal to get good quality in a relatively lightweight bundle (I already cart 5kg or so into work every day, so an extra 800g or so won't bother me!)

Well what a nice postie, he came to the door again today, this time to deliver this.

A Ross Ensign 12-20. Its in very nice condition but the slower speeds are a little sticky, is there a way for me to fix this or does it need a CLA. If it needs a CLA any suggestions as to who to send it to?

Cheers

Very smart Andy.

There's something here. If anyone has have a simple service manual for Epsilon shutters there's a very large pool of them out there and sticking on slower speeds. I know I have one as well.

Thanks Alastair, I'll have a look at that tonight.

I seem to have bought this..

I don't have a lens for it yet and I'm having trouble fitting it in to my camera bag! But it looks like fun

If there's anyone in the London area that has a spare lens I could borrow just so I could try it out I'd appreciate it.

Ebay and alcohol mixing? ;)
Done it myself. Ebay should have a breathalyser fitted, in my case. Or 'was drunk' should be a valid reason to retract a bid :)

Looks like a lot of fun, I'm just starting LF myself.

Oooo, that looks nice, if everyone that has bought a LF camera in the last few months gets to grips with them we can have a LF forum......

Why would you need a lens for a handbag?

Not just a handbag, but an expanding handbag

Definitely, I'd certainly have less cameras in my collection if I was able to use the 'drunk' excuse to retract my bid.

Sounds like a plan, I can just imagine those in power at TP Towers tutting at the very thought of it

Come on lads - we're barely ticking over in here as it is... F&C has been a whole lot quieter recently since Ujjwal went away, and Arthur got his own forum for camera trading on so calls in a little less often. I know I've been letting the side down too... haven't shot anywhere near what I'd like to over the last couple of months, and what money I've had has had to go to buying my own stock of EF lenses since my mate's decided to ask for the "big box of L glass" that I've been looking after for him back.

I can almost feel the jaws of death closing on the "Shots from Film" forum as I type this - It took months and months of lobbying by a few people to get somewhere where we could post pictures taken on film and get critique based on the fact that people knew it was on film, and didn't just dismiss it as "noisy" or ask to see the colour version of a shot on Fuji Acros 100. It was always said that we didn't actually post enough to justify an area to itself. Thing is, while-ever people just post in the "Show us..." thread, it looks like we don't.

The other reason was of course that it didn't matter what the picture was taken on, it was the subject that counted. This of course had to be dropped as an argument when a couple of the staff decided that they wanted somewhere to put shots from mobile phones. Strange that most of the shots in that forum area are taken on mobile phones, with in-built effect processing to make them look like shots from Holgas / Polaroids / Cross Processed E6 film / Grainy black and white's

I agree Mark, it seems the "film photo" section isn't working which is a shame. I think its due to it being far easier just to chuck images in the 'show us your film shots' rather than the hassle of starting a thread.

The film challenge isn't really working either, I am part of the blame as I have only entered it twice :( This year I am going to be shooting as much film as I can afford as I have two projects I want to work on. Its a shame we can't force the digital users into shooting some film :D

I think that perhaps putting the film challenges into the competitions section might help on that score... of course that's only my opinion, and i'm sure that there'd be arguments against as well.
