Official Fuji X-Pro 2 thread

I love the 23mm just a pity it turned up late but gives me time to go through all the settings

Hmmm just spent ages setting up all the menu's turned it off and on again and they all reset.

Edit: the custom film simulation settings I set have remained unchanged.

Was the battery fully charged, or partly charged as it would be from the box?

Jeez that's not good, hopefully they'll have a fix really soon for that. I wonder if that bug affects all cameras or only some random ones ?

Must be just a quirk, I was in the menu's and left it sitting. I think it powered down without me backing out of the menu's.

I've set them all up again, backed out of the menu and switched it off and it's all working group fine

There have been reports of the settings reset issues on some other forums actually.
Probably the internal battery, or capacitor these days, hadn't had chance to become fully charged by the main battery. There used to be a warning in Olympus manuals about this, to let the capacitor charge up before actually using the camera. I suspect that not all cameras had a full charge during assembly, and once they've had a charged battery in them for a good few hours it's sorted.

Dont think they would use volatile memory for setting storage, thought it would be stored in an eprom

DSLR's have (for the moment) reached a bit of a plateau, they do what they do well enough (at the top end) that aside from maybe EVF's surely they've just reached maturity for now?

Aside from the (in my opinion sometimes quite poor) MF assists that everyone keeps banging on about an the EVF whats so massively technically advanced about mirrorless?
Well, there's the manual focus aids :D the in view histogram, the WYSIWYG, the ability to use other lenses, the video - but that doesn't interest me - and the rapid improvements they've made in image quality and performance.

Not too sure why you think the focus aids are quite poor. I think they're great. Even just the magnified view on my 1st gen G1 makes focus so much easier, it's like macro focusing but at a distance and surpasses anything that's possible with a purely optical and unmagnified system. I can see and focus on detail which simply can not be seen through an unmagnified OVF.

Well it's almost the weekend, Saturday night I usually have an Indian takeaway and a few beers, it's usually around 10pm on a Saturday evening when my macbook is switched on, the beer has begun to take effect and commonsense goes out the window. This is generally when I make my "impulse" purchases. There's still an X Pro 2 in my Calumet basket, I wonder if it'll still be there come Sunday morning ?

Oh, I can sympathise with you there. Fortunately for me though the XPro2 + lenses got through the online checkout before the Leica M series + lenses

LOL a close shave indeed, Jeez a Leica M and lenses, look on the bright side though if it had have happened there wouldn't be much left in the bank account for the divorce settlement

Not that I have had much chance to play with it as that horrible thing called work gets in the way but I managed t switch it on this morning and the settings were all still there. Must be an issue if you don't back out of the menu completely.

Well I hope it is!

@CScottMcQueen You said in an earlier post you'd cancelled and re-ordered using Quidco ? I see Calumet are also on the Quidco list of retailers, I have a quidco account but have never used it, do you actually get the rebate ? For Calumet it's 5% thats £67.45 ! Are there any drawbacks using Quidco ?

I would like the 35/2 but as I already have the 35/1.4 I'm reluctant. I know the f2 focusses quicker but I was shocked at how well the 1.4 focuses compared to the XP1 so I'm tempted just to stick with it.

No drawbacks, It takes a little while to come through (a couple of months sometimes) but to me, it gave me an excuse to buy the leather case and justify it as being free lol.

I don't think I'd go for the 35/2 if I already had the f1.4 but brand new it made sense (and its cheaper!)

True but some of those aren't really innovations are they? Excepting Sony FF (which still can't quite match the FF Nikon IQ) all thats happening in mirrorless is that they're catching up with the current state of play in DSLR land in and IQ sense and not even quite there AF wise yet, the EVF's I grant are good but I was using an EVF almost exactly the same as the latest Sony A7's in an A77 about 5 years ago.

Focus aids just depend on preference I guess, I found the peaking on the Sony bodies to be quite inaccurate and magnified zoom gave me a headache when I was hand-holding, although using it on a tripod was excellent.

Man maths at work :) I like it !

I find the 35mm F1.4 focuses quickly on my XT1, it's been on it for such a long time when I recently put my 18-55mm on I thought it was broken as there was no focus noise at all, the 35mm F1.4 is a rattley clattery old thing, but the IQ is fantastic

Agreed, IQ is fantastic considering it's one of the first Fuji X lenses.

Whats the Fuji half case like ? I've always used Gariz in the past.

Well made as you would expect, access to battery via clipped cover. Fits very well in the hand but two things I don't like about it:

Like all fuji cases it is attached by clipping over the strap attachment pins, so doesn't really work without a strap (although saying that I cant see it falling off)

No tripod mount in the base of the case (this normally lines right through and you use it screw in the camera tripod hole to attach it in a lot of other case designs.

The one good thing is the base is completely flat for standing it down on a flat surface (due to no tripod screw, oh the irony)

And the 'wrap' cloth that comes with it is probably one of the best quality I have ever seen. I suppose they give you this as they have moved away form the full case design.

As regards cash back and money saving, the deal I got from Wex in the UK was reasonable. The camera was list price but lenses bought with it were 5% cheaper when purchased at the same time. Likewise spare batteries and cards got a discount too. One of the cards I bought attracted 30% off. I see now that Wex is sold out of X Pro2s and 35mm f/2 lenses. I think UK stocks will be all sold out quite soon with the attention and reviews this camera is getting. The same happened with the original stocks of the Leica Q.

The Fuji Shop is sold out too.

Well my X-Pro 2 and the Handgrip have arrived, just need something to mount on it now!!!! 35 f2 and now a 16 f1.4 coming from Amazon later.

Doesn't seem to be any stock anywhere now, I got mine from Park Cameras after having declined the one I'd ordered at WEX (assume it then got sold!), I had heard that it would be another couple of weeks until more stock was available,

Chris

Well, I think they're innovations :D and certainly more so than what's happening in stagnant DSLR land but of course Nikon owners do have service advisories to keep them awake :D Nikon v Sony A7 IQ, I don't care as any difference is lets be honest relatively minimal and I'll happily give up a minimal amount of pixel peeping bragging rights for the advantages of CSC shooting and the bulk and weight savings over a DSLR.

Peaking... I think it depends how you use it and when using manual lenses I find it quite accurate at wide apertures when very little is peaking and very probably more accurate than unaided OVF focusing when the point of focus isn't big in the frame. For example it's simply impossible to manually focus accurately at f1.2 with an OVF unless the subject is large in the frame but with peaking your point of focus will be twinkling even if it's small in the frame. At narrower apertures I find peaking almost useless because everything peaks. Narrow aperture shots may be ok for small images but I've found that they sometimes don't stand up to close viewing. Wide aperture peaking in my experience can though and there's the option of focusing with a wide aperture and stopping down to take the shot. This can be a relatively fast and accurate way to shoot even without using the magnified view.

I dont think you keep track of DSLR land as you call it, to know the updated features tbh. All the features you suggest are being developed yearly for CSCs are just updates to stuff that already exists, not much new.

I like the Gariz cases because they have the tripod screw on the case, saves the marking you get when screwing the mounting plate onto bottom of the camera, plus they're well made and generally around the £69.99 Fuji are charging for their case.

Had a good look over the case when I nipped home for lunch, It is really well made and fits like a glove, I will always have a strap on this one so the way it secures doesn't bother me and its really easy to take off for fitting the mounting plate (not really worried about marks on the mounting plate)

Acros unedited copied from camera with fuji app and posted here via phone so not sure of quality tbh

So many of us do this. I think that's why the classifieds become so active too!

Well my 35mm is here.... and what can I say, this is easily the best Fuji yet, its the first mirrorless thats anywhere near as quick to operate as any of my Nikon's it just works!
The new AF control is genius its finally not a pain to move focus points!!

Glad they included the click to centre option as well, works great.
