Hi All

Im off to prague next week for 4 nights and taking the SLR. Im after some suggestions of some places to go shoot that are well known and the local knowledge type of places. And any decent walking tours that anyone can recommend?

also any recommendations on food and bars is always appreciated :D

Cheers
Alex

Anywhere but the charles bridge to be honest as it looks nicer from all the other bridges, but pop into most tourist places and they'll have a free map

i found walking around the parks on the edges of prague nice and away from the tourist places but theres the astronomical clock in the main square and theres the shopping section at wenseclas square that seems popular but to be honest it's all very walkable and in 4 days you should be able to get around a lot and see most of it

i've got some shots on there from prague and feel free to pm me with any questions about the travel etc :)

I visited a few years ago and it was heaving. We decided to get up very early each morning and wander around taking photos. It worked out very well, Charles Bridge was virtually empty.

You will get some good shots at:

At Hradcany > the castle, Golden lane, the gardens in front of Hradcany > elevated views down onto old town Prague, the Vltava river and the various bridges, Nove Svet > quaint little area just near the castle entrance, St Vitus > cathederal at Hradcany - excellent views over Prague from the top.

Charles bridge best really early in morning to catch sunrise, either of the 2 towers at either end of the charles bridge for elevated views down, in the evening along the embankement between the Charles bridge and the National theatre [gold roofed building] for sunset/night shots of Hradcany and Charles bridge.

In the Old Town Square for the astronomical clock and views from the tower, Wencelas square.

A short metro ride from Wenceslas square you have the grounds of Vysehrad where you will get nice shots of Hradcany, the grounds themselves and also the Vltava river.

The old jewish cemetry, which is quite central & has all the headstones at various angles is also a good photo spot.

Particularily in the old town area of Prague many of the buildings have nice artwork on the outside.

Me and the other half went at this time last year and loved the place. At this time of year, if the sun's out, it has a very cold, autumnal feel about it which makes it nice to get wrapped up and go walking around looking at the sites.

At this time last year it was very quiet around the main tourist areas which made it much better for viewing (and photographing!) the sights.

Many of the best places have already been mentioned (Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square, the Astronomical Clock) but also worth a visit is St. Vitus Cathedral high up over the city. Its a very pretty building that looks unusual compared to cathedrals in this country and once you've seen it, the views over the city heading back down the hill are great on a clear day.

I'm sure you'll have a great time with your camera there!

From memory there is a changing of the guard at the castle which was quite good... Although lots of people to get in the way though! But worth the walk as you get a good view across the city from the castle.

Also across the river from the city there is a big hill with some kind of monument on... walk up there (its steep) and its a large park, makes for a good place to escape the crowds!

John Lennon Wall makes for some cool photos. Photos of Charles Bridge from another location at sunrise/sunset seem to be a must, as is the astronomical clock. However, my favourite was the church of Our Lady Before Tyn in Old Town Square at night, the lighting was brilliant and just made it look beautiful. I love the castle too, Im a sucker for that kind of Gothic architecture.

If you want to travel approc 45 mins by train, Sedlec Ossuary is supposed to offer highly photogenic opportunities. It's on my list for my next visit to Prague.

I was in Prague in the end of February this year and I want to say that Prague is very very crowded city, especially as because tourist season has not done yet.
So I want to suggest you a little more going to other Czech towns...

I went to Prague early this year, took the camera but i'm far from compotent in handling a camera, so didn't get too many shots.

There was a fantastic restaurant that i went to but i can't remember the name of, i even took a card it was that nice but threw it out last week!!

My amateur attempt of a decent photo:

:welcome:

Like the motion of the tram

Went to Prague in 2003, lovely place with fantastic scenery and plenty of photo opportunities, unfortunately i didn't have a decent camera in those days, also was an unbelievably cheap place at the time food beer etc, i have friends who have been recently and have said it's quite expensive now, wouldn't mind going back there one day though.

I really like this pic the way the motion of the train (or tram) is going looks great

seeing this post has reminded me i need to upload the pics from the trip

For anyone going in the future, i can say that Prague is defiantly a picturesque place to go to and to expect to fill up some memory cards!! All the places suggested where brilliant suggestions, just didnt make it to the jewish cemetary.

Price wise, outside of the tourist areas like the square the beer price is really cheap, but we found food prices to be about the same as they are here.

I was in Prague in 1993 - it was quiet then - tourists hadn't really discovered it. I was shooting video though so no pics I'm afraid. I'd love to go back and see how it's changed.
