Having never been to Paris before me and my wife have decided to take a short break there next week and my trust D90 will be coming with me. Im planning to hit several of the 'obvious' tourist attractions like Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysées etc but was wondering if any frequent visitors had any insider knowledge of some good spots for photography??

Ill be taking a few lenses, the Tokina 11-16 for some good landscape stuff and ill also be taking my 24-70 f2.8 as a walk about lens, possible my 50mm prime too???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Jardin du Luxembourg to take pics of the Parisians relaxing at the weekend.

Up onto the Trocadero for stunning pics of the tower and the Paris skyline.

Follow your nose :)

Le Marais and Quartier Latin are great to wander round. Jardin du Luxembourg too for people watching. Views from roof terrace of the Institute du Monde Arabe. Montmartre is usually packed with tourists but the view over the city is good. If you find yourself around Cardinal Lemoine or Rue Monge, visit Rue Mouffetard to get snaps of shops selling lots of excellent food.

I was going to suggest these too. The entire Latin Quarter is really picturesque, especially at night with all its cosy wine bars and nightlife. And of course the Notre Dame, all lit up across the river.

Paris is beautiful.

There's a decent view from the top of the Grande Arche at La Défense. Sacré Coeur offers similarly good views over Paris IIRC.

The Tuileries Garden is good for people spotting IME.

Thanks for the info guys, got my route planned now and have integrated so of you recommended locations. Really looking forward to my trip :)

Tour Montparnasse offers the best views of Paris, partially because you cannot see the building when on top of it. From memory it is the tallest building in Paris. Institute du Monde Arabe provides a wonderful view of the Cathédrale Notre Dame.

A favourite of mine is La Bibliothèque nationale de France by Dominique Perrault shot over the Siene but that is the architect in me.

Musicman is correct with the view from Sacré Coeur, wonderful sitting on the steps watching the world go by.

Top of Tour Montparnasse at sunset, magical views as the city lights up.
